Fuel Tank shrinkage

Imagine my surprise to find my 2016 fuel tank has shrunk compared to my 2015 fuel tank. Both 4.4 RRS AB.

The 2015 had the 105 litre tank, many the 2016 has the 89 litre tank, the owners manual says it should have 105 litres as with all V8 have the 105 litre tank, the new brochure now says all diesels are 89 litre, and only the petrol is 105.

Landrover have also said the owners manual shouldn't be relied on as being accurate, so that's a huge confidence boost if I ever need to look something up.

Just means now I can no longer go a week of commuting without having to fill up, definitely a backwards step.

Just a shame the documentation doesn't tell you this...

Rolling with laughter

Lot of rumbling on discosportforum about this - owners of pre adblue have bigger tank and range but newer have smaller tank and range because the mpg has dropped not increased and the adblue consumption is double the claimed Rolling Eyes Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Oh my, similar posts have also appeared on BabyRR today regarding AdBlue consumption and reduced range because of the smaller fuel tank! Also complaints that compared to the 2.2SD4 motor the 2.0 Igenium is a poor performer and feels strained and is noisier at anything over "cruising" RPM. Whilst Evoque is hardly a sports car, owners who have had 2016MY loaners with the higher output Ingenium engine say that after a few days with the loaner they really appreciated the extra oomph of the old 2.2ltr engine when they got their non-Ingenium engined car back. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

The way the environmental wind is blowing, JLR will soon be offering petrol engines across the range. All the AdBlue tinkering will come to nought.

All the engines are already available in export markets. The hybrid is just too expensive. How many have been sold compared to SVRs? Regards

Malcolm

Have owned 2.2 FL2s and had Evoque 2.2 loaner for extended period but the 2.0 is far more refined and quieter imho

0-60 is same as my RRS1s so no problem with that either although I do miss the smoother! V6

Better mpg would be nice too - I can hit high 40 - low 50 now and then but as you can see from fuelly average it's not often enough Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

How many sold maybe irrelevant it was primarily introduced ( well in part ) because of legislation about all car producers lowering emissions across their ranges by certain percentages, the introduction of hybrid was a huge step, given where JLR emissions were previously.

Some may say, the legislation is the cause of the cheat devices, all I know is LR didn't really need to bother as their emissions were always so high compared to the competition... Whistle

A big part of my decision to buy the DS was the adblue system claim of 53 mpg, lower emissions and lower RFL Embarassed

My daughter is an asthma sufferer so I follow the diesel reports with concern - back in 06 I sold my D2 for a Jag x-type when reports circulated of £1000 RFL for 4x4s and the activists were vandalising LRs. I stupidly believed I would see high mpg. I also bought a mini in 12 for local use with claimed 74 mpg and zero RFL Rolling Eyes

None of the above happened so I came back to LRs in 07 after crashing in snow and stopped believing the press but thanks to VW the cycle has started again and the knifes are coming out Evil or Very Mad

Might have to go look at a Tesla now Laughing Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I assume my SVR has the 105 litre tank but the fuel gauge is very pessimistic so than even when the remaining range is zero, I can only put about 90 litres in it. Mark

I believe you will still have the 105 litre along,,along with any 5.0 non SVR owners.
Just V8 diesel removed for,,was never there on V6.

Well I manged to get 87 litres into mine the last fill, and still had 150 k's range so at least 12 litres left in the tank on this basis alone. I believe my Aussie SVD 8 is 105 litres. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW.

I'm not 100% sure of this but I have read somewhere on the forum that the discrepancy is because of the design of the fuel tank which on diesel cars has a "well" in it that the fuel pump sits in which ensures that it cannot be run dry and is also shaped so that it will not draw air even at severe off-road angles with a near "empty" tank. The fuel gauge is calibrated to show empty when there is still 5-10 litres of fuel left in the tank to ensure there is always fuel in the well. As I say I don't know how true this is. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
