British weather and open top cars..............

Rolling with laughter Just home from the local garden centre where, parked in the full sun, there was a black Mini cabrio, hood down, black leather seats baking in the 27c cloudless blue skies day we are having at the moment. We Brits (or maybe it just Scots) get to put the hood down on our convertibles so rarely that we forget that black fabric or leather, but especially leather, can get very very hot in the sunshine....... When I came out of the garden centre I heard an almighty shriek that sounded like someone was being murdered...................... It was a young lady in very short shorts and a open back top who had just sat on the very very hot driver's seat of her mini! Rolling with laughter Maybe Drophead cars are not that "cool" on a sunny day! Hopefully the lady has learned the lesson that posing by leaving your car, hood down on a sunny isn't too smart. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Tim,

I have a solution for this! Come and live in the vicinity of Inverness. Thick fog up until noon and temperature has only just crept up to the low teens since then.

I was going to put on the Summer tyres today, but have put that job off until a better day. It could snow again yet!!!

Jock, I'm looking out of the back garden at the NE side of Ben Lomond that still has snow plenty of snow on it, in fact we were up there yesterday driving the private Comer Road over the Ptarmigan Ridge, had lunch at 1300ft up in 22c, blue skies and dazzling snow on the mountain! Was told years ago, never plant tender bedding plants out in the garden if you can see any sign of snow patches on Ben Lomond or The Aberfoyle Alps/ Ben A'an as you can still get a frost at night even in June if there is snow still up there! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Firenze Red

I can see the attraction of driving a open top car in country reads but when I see people driving in towns and in heavy traffic with all the engine noise and fumes and the smells I just wonder why?

Our hard top convertible MX5 is superb in the countryside but not as good as a Series One LR with the roof off, door tops off and windscreen folded down on the bonnet Thumbs Up Visitor from fullfatrr.com

I think that wee Brits enjoy getting the roof down on our cars even on any day that looks remotely like it's not going to p155 down rain, having said that I've been caught a few times in April showers ( not golden) whilst driving and found that depending on speed ,the rain doesn't come into the cab...

I concur with Big Jock, weather in Inverness is 'unpredictable' at the moment but roof down after lunch is a good bet ....

I believe that the young lady in question may have been a novice in the convertible world , as that is a well known first check on a sunny day with roof , that and checking for bird bombs whilst away ( keep a bottle of general cleaner spray and a microfibre cloths in the boot) ..

But all that said Wee Brits gave to take full advantage of any break in the weather .....

I've dabbled with going topless over the years but never went for leather due to the torture of skin on it after sun - always picked cloth Embarassed

They look nice but totally impractical - too hot, noisy, fumes and don't get me started on showers while driving - usually when there is nowhere to stop Rolling Eyes

But I'm now looking for one of these so I just never learn Mr. Green
