18" rims?

I am considering changing the wheels on my 59 3.0 hse rrs to 18" rims with grabber a/t tyres. I tow a 7m caravan quite often. any pros and cons and advice on widths would be very helpful.
Thanks in advance

I think the smallest you can get is 19". I just bought myself a set of 15 spokes (from the SE) and they look great. Tyre size was 255 50 r19.

Funnily enough I used grabber AT on my 20s (275 45 r20) and they were perfect and much more comfortable than usual 40 profile road tyres. I just decided to get some winter rubber this year as the AT aren't that great on ice (although they're great in snow) which is pretty common.

If it were possible to get 18s to fit it would certainly be a smooth ride .

Just in case anyone is interested;
http://www.wheelbasealloys.com/alloy-wheel...ss/18-inch
I have been in touch with the manufacturers and the rims are rated 1035 lbs.
What size tyres would anyone recommend.

I think at a rough guess 1035 lbs is about 480kg. Not got a calculator to hand but that near enough

Those rims will not survive the weight of a RRS if they're rated at only 1035lb. You need about 2000lb.

Even sat with all four wheels on level ground they'll be overloaded. The RRS weighs about 5500lb before you put any people in it. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Just a quick update.
I bought a set of 18" AEZ Phoenix high gloss rims with GG A/T tyres 175x55x18".
When I first fitted them they were binding on the caliper.
I removed the wheels and removed the high spots from the calliper with a grinder re-fitted the wheels with no problems.
The ride is great and the rim protection is more than welcome.
I have include some photo's if you would like to see how they fit.

Badger, is that tyre size correct? Have you got a side view photo of your car? I've been given some FFRR 5-spoke 18's which touch the calipers! How much did you have to grind off?

Hi Salisburylander
Yes the tyre sizes are correct, but I don't have any photo's yet.
I reckon I took 2-3mm off each caliper.

I only asked because I've not seen them in 175/55-18 before and that size isn't listed on GG's website!

Hi Salisburylander
The people that supplied the rims also want some pictures so I will try to get some this week.I got the rims from Wheekbase alloys and they state that they fit the rrs (although they did not know that you have to relieve the caliper).
When I suggested that I was going to try to grind the caliper they advised me not to.
So far no problems. Smile
Sorry I don't know what GG is.
