"Jaguar Defender Series One" says one caption. Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter
Defender being made for 68 years? Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

The BBC should stick to reporting on "celebrities" dancing; the standard of reporting is laughable.

The Defender is not 68 years old at all. Anyway, glad to see the back of it. Agricultural to drive, uncomfortable and yet premium price charged by LR for it. No better off road than the modern stuff unless you stick big knobbly tyres on it. The only going for it was the short overhangs. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

1983-2016 isn't 68 years...

If they want to play the continuous production claim then the Porsche 911 is just as long lived. The Porsche 356 started in 1948 too and is the antecedent of the 911 in the same way that Series 1 is to Defender. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

United Kingdom 2010 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Bali Blue

Great seeing a few pics of the series 1,,, I used to own one when I was (a lot) younger. As one comment said " every part could be unbolted",, no truer word spoken. Basic was an understatement but I loved it,,,, I remember driving it for a week with no starter motor fitted, as long as there was enough life in the battery to prime the electric fuel pump a half turn on the starting handle would get it going!! 2010 RRS, TDV8
bali Blue / colour coded
side steps / flappy paddles
black perforated leather
22" overfinch
heated everything, TV,fridge ...... now with gold calipers and mud flaps !( black mud flaps that is) !!
Many years ago,,,,, 1955 series 1 landie , sometimes wish I had kept it

Ok so it looks like the article was written by a Mail Reporter Embarassed

I spent school holidays on a farm being bounced around fields and fording rivers in a series and that started my LR dream then when I started training for my first career I spent every day rain or shine in a soft top series and that was me convinced even though it leaked like a sieve and was freezing Cool

Yes - they're uncomfortable but at least they're not boring Rolling Eyes

I've got a busy year ahead but as soon as I have the time I have to find a good example and buy it for a second car/fun Bow down Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

My personal reg number, is off a 1950's land rover that snapped in half going through the Dartford Tunnel in the early 80's. I like to think it's good still being on successor.

As a "toy" they are a great idea. I might get myself a Series 2a (not a "Defender Series 2"!) when we get the house finished. Just fancy one the same age as me. Bit silly, and it wouldn't get a lot of use, but a fun thing to do. Use one everyday to commute? No way! 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Scotland 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 Autobiography Santorini Black

Your link does not work Ady.
I love the Defender, they are way over priced for what you get but real fun and easy to fix if things go wrong.
I totaly rebuilt my one 5 years ago and it has sailed through every MOT since.
It gets used most days, great fun in the mud and snow and yes it has large tyres and a 3 ton winch fitted.
Never been stuck with it.
