ctek mxs5.0

just bought a Ctek 5.0 to keep my battery topped up through the winter as i do short journeys during the week, my question is with the charger i bought the cigarette lighter connector to charge through!! is this ok or should i connect a different way ??

Do you have the rear tow eye electrical sockets on your Sport - I purchased the connector from the forum. It has a connector that fits to the CTek & then it plugs in the back of your Sport - great piece of kit Thumbs Up
Left it on last night - all night out in the cold. The instructions state it can work upto " -20 degrees "

Towing socket is obviously the best solution but if like me you don't have towing electrics, it is OK to charge via the cigarette lighter socket. Bear in mind the sockets are not permanently live. If you connect a charger to it, it will start charging fine but will stop as soon as the car goes to sleep (2 minutes after locking?).

You can make the sockets perm live by removing and storing away a relay and jumping two of its terminals in the fuse box using a wire. Details on the disco3 forum. I used this method in my previous car and used to charge using the boot socket. Never had any problems except that as a result of removing the relay, the car logs a 'circuit open' fault on every start. Only visible if you plug in a fault code reader and doesn't prevent anything from working so I wasn't bothered.

In the current one I have hardwired a CTEK comfort connector to the boot fuse box and earth. This is a better solution than cig lighter because you don't remove a relay, no faults are recorded and the comfort connector holds the plug better than a cigarette lighter socket holds a plug. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

right thanks for the info guys guess i will have to just use the normal comfort lead to charge don't really want to start taking relays out but thank you for the info

Have you ever removed your rear towing eye cover ? use a coin on the 2 plastic screws - remove them & then remove the cover - behind is the connections - its a 2 minute job - if they are there you will have the best route to use the CTek IMO Thumbs Up 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

I thought the negative lead needed to be earthed to the body not the battery ?

I think that may only be relevant on Facelift Models with the Battery Monitoring System, on my Pre Facelift that's how I wired it and never had a Issue and I left mine for 3 months at a time when working in the Middle East.

I think this thread must have jinxed me today,,,, considering mine is garaged each night and is never really subject to temperature below 10 deg. Jumped in early doors to move it onto the drive,,, turned over as normal,,albeit for a little longer than usual and the battery promptly died!. Connected the cheapo charger I have and left it on for a couple of hours, charger off and also added my portable booster and managed to get it going.
Guess what I have just purchased!! , a ctek charger,, got a good deal off amazon as luck would have it, found a 10 quid off voucher in my mail, so nice new charger delivered tomorrow for the princely sum of 50 quid.

The short journeys of late must be hammering the battery, I now realise how important a good fully charged battery is on the rrs 2010 RRS, TDV8
bali Blue / colour coded
side steps / flappy paddles
black perforated leather
22" overfinch
heated everything, TV,fridge ...... now with gold calipers and mud flaps !( black mud flaps that is) !!
Many years ago,,,,, 1955 series 1 landie , sometimes wish I had kept it

Ive been meaning to buy this charger for ages but after these cold mornings thought i best get it. Just trying to find the best way of fitting the comfort lead now
