2010 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 Autobiography Santorini Black
Recommended Land Rover Dealers/Independents in London?

Hi,

Just picked up my 2010 RR Sport Autobiography this week and on the whole I am really happy with it. There are a few things that need doing which I am aiming to have done in the next week or so but I seem to be hitting a brick wall when it comes to dealers.

First thing I need to do is a minor service. Its got 27k on the clock and has had 4 services in its time. Its due the 5 year service. I'd heard that dealing with LR dealerships was like playing bingo but I didn't expect so much variation. First dealer I spoke to was in Droitwich as they supplied the car. The woman there told me it was due a major service even though I had the service schedule in front of me and she wanted £700 for the privilege. Next I rang Park Royal LR and they kept trying to sell me a service plan and then when I told them I didn't want it, they wanted £650 for a minor service?! Next port of call was Grange LR Barnet who wanted £500 for the minor service but I am slightly put off because whilst I was waiting there, two very disgruntled customers who were collecting their cars both told me to steer clear and to go to Brookfields Garage which was just down the road. I am fairly sure that I will be sticking to LR for now as my car has full dealership history and given its age and condition, I think its worth maintaining this.

Question is, does anyone have anything positive to say about Grange LR Barnet or I am considering trying Welwyn LR next?

Next question is that I think the pads and discs could do with being changed. Can anyone recommend somewhere to buy decent quality parts at a reasonable price and a good independent to fit them?

Thanks in advance!

LR will just charge you ££££££££££ and rip you off. That's labour charges alone Shocked

A good indie will do the work stamp your book give you paperwork and use genuine parts. Find a good indie near you and stick with them.
Most of them are ex Land Rover mechanics. My indie know Land Rover cars like the back of there hand. Honest and reliable Thumbs Up

That would be your first mistake. LR garages are overpriced and most are, at best, poor in the quality of work and customer service. Find a decent indie/specialist and you will not only save money but you'll be getting better quality work done too. The LR logo in the service book should ring alarm bells for a potential purchaser!

OEM parts are the way to go - the same quality as the original part but without the £100 that Land Rover charge for the box... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Is there anything else I should consider having done in terms of preventative maintenance whilst I am having the car worked on? It is exactly 5 years old and has 28K miles on the clock? I read somewhere about having the gearbox oil changed?

At that mileage, I would do a basic drain and refill of the transmission and then continue to do the same approx every 25k. Leave it longer and a flush would be the best bet, so acting now would simplify things. Thumbs Up

Changing the other driveline oils (i.e. diffs and transfer box) early is also a good idea, though 28k would probably be a bit extreme on that front. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Perfect, Ill get that done whilst I am there. A friend of mine thinks I should try and get a LR warranty on it and book it in with LR for a pre-warranty inspection. Is that an idea worth exploring?

Always worth exploring, but note that any issues found on the vehicle at present will have to be rectified, and so once you've paid for the inspection too, the value for money starts to drop quite a bit. There are 3 good options for a RRS owner:

1) LR warranty - best cover, but priced to match.
2) Warranty Direct - reputedly the only worthwhile aftermarket warranty.
3) No warranty, save up money yourself - on the balance of probablility, this will always be the best value.

Option 3 makes all the more sense if you can do work yourself like me. Wink

Ill look into warranty direct and see what that comes up with.

Just a small update on this. Took the car in to Rovertune. Can't really fault the work although the price was different to that I was quoted on the phone (ended up paying 487 which I am not sure is correct!). My other gripe was that I have been taking really good care of the interior since I bought the car (cream and black autobiography interior). It was literally spotless when I took it in and when I collected it there were a few grease marks on the door cards, the dash and the rear interior.
