EPB jammed the rear shoes. you will need to strip the rear drums to find out the problem, common on the sports and Discoverys. |

Don't be fobbed off - it's dealers responsibility regardless of what warrantywise say

I've pushed back - it's off to a LR specialist garage now. Sure they will diagnose it quickly. It does make a horrible noise when you try to release it the parking brake! |

Yes - sounds like it! I'm new to this game, I believe it's best to leave the handbrake off on these? Looks like the last owner hasn't been using it and it's locked now I have started using it. |

If you use it, the shoes wear, go out of adjusted, and squeak

As Mikey says, using it needs maintainence, not using it needs maintainence - you may as well take advantage of it (and you don't want to put strain on the parking pawl). Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Thanks for the replies. I'm a bit dissapointed as the car is a one owner with a full service history. Surely EPB should have been maintained regardless of use? |

I wouldn't be too disappointed - it often doesn't get the attention it needs, and if you don't have a trustworthy mechanic, it can be hard to know if the EPB has been done properly unless you've done it yourself. It may well be time for a new set of shoes - mine were in a right state when I first went to change the brake discs. Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK
