I have a Blackvue 500 (which is a couple of models too old now). I have hardwired it with PowerMagic so it records when parked without completely draining the battery. Switches off after a configured number of days or when configured voltage threshold is reached. HD quality video, WIFI to connect to smartphone app for live view, file transfer and configuration. Built-in GPS to associate video with location.

The video certainly seems to be a decent enough quality for an insurance claim or to hand to the police. A dashcam is on my list and this does look to be a "good enough" one. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Hi everyone, @Pufftmw: this looks very impressive. How does the image hold up in very low lighting, like at night or going through tunnels and such? Reading everybody´s comments it seems these cameras can be lifesavers when something happens. But tell me, when you´re at fault: would you delete the footage or not? Best, Jill I've got a Range Rover and a little Mercedes. I normally drive my Range Rover because I feel like a monster in it. Nobody messes with me. Emma Bunton |

Hi Jill TBH its a case of fit/forget for me, so I haven't checked nor done much night driving recently! However, I've got it linked to the pretty pants quality SatNav screen and sometimes use it as a rear-view cam. Going through the Blackwall Tunnel it seems perfectly clear for cars coming up behind, despite any headlight glare. The image quality on a PC will be a lot better obviously. If you do a search on the K1S, there's a review HERE which is very in-depth with a video showing front/rear day/night quality. What I won't do is post on a public forum/youtube the video of me going past a speed camera van with GPS speed showing, together with my registration - they were obviously having a cup of tea at the time as I didn't get a NIP and I wouldn't want to incriminate myself |
