United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
fuel filter location...do I need to remove anything else?

I've been searching for the fuel filter and no luck. I've removed the engine undershield, and the other large grey plastic undershield ("transmission undershield"?) and I still can't see it anywhere. Is there anything else I need to remove before I see it? Apparently it's drivers side near the fuel tank cover, but can't find it anywhere.
Thanks all. Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.
DONE: Meduza front bumper, AB rear bumper, AB tailpipes, calipers repainted, rear upper tailgate upgrade, side steps, AB front grille, AB side vents, rear LED lights, clear side repeaters, integrated daytime running lights, LED headlights.
TO DO: color code sills and pillars.

If it is similar to the TDV8 then after removing the transmission plastic shield you should be able to see a vertically mounted heatshield . remove that and the fuel filter is behind it. Thumbs Up 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

The location changed on the 2.7 in the 2006MY - 2007MY changes.

Quote:
FUEL FILTER - UP TO 2007MY
The fuel filter is located behind the fuel cooler, at the rear of the engine and is protected by the engine undertray. The fuel filter
assembly comprises a bracket and the filtration element which is contained within a canister.
The filter canister is attached to a circular bracket which is clamped around the filter canister with a bolt and nut. The bracket is
attached on the inside of the right hand chassis rail with two screws. Removal of the fuel filter requires loosening of the bolt and
nut and removing the filter canister from the circular bracket.
The filter element has a capacity of 500 cm3 (30.5 in3). The filtration element can filter particulate matter larger than 2 microns.
A water drain plug is located on the base of the filter. The filter can be purged of water by partially unscrewing the filter element
plug and allowing fuel to drain into a suitable container. The plug must tightened to a torque specified in the Service Repair
Manual.

Quote:
FUEL FILTER - FROM 2007MY
The fuel filter assembly is located in front of the fuel tank and is mounted on a bracket which is attached to the top face of the
transfer box chassis cross member. The fuel filter assembly comprises a bracket, filter housing and the filtration element. The
filter housing is secured to the bracket with 3 bolts. The bracket is secured to the cross member with 2 bolts which are screwed
into threaded holes in the cross member.
The filter housing has an inlet and outlet which allow for the attachment of hoses using quick release connectors. The filter
element is located on the underside of the housing and can be removed by rotating one quarter turn to release from the housing.
The filter element has a capacity of 200 cm3 (12.2 in3). The filtration element can filter particulate matter larger than 2 microns.
A water drain valve is located on the base of the filter. The filter can be purged of water by partially unscrewing the drain valve
and allowing at least 84 cm3 (5.12 in3) of fuel to drain into a suitable container. The drain plug has a centre outlet which allows
for the attachment of a drain hose.
The filter element also has a water sensor located in its base. The sensor is screwed into a threaded hole in the base of the
element. When the filter is replaced at service, the sensor can be unscrewed from the element and installed in the new element.
The sensor has an electrical connector located at the side of the element which can be disconnected to assist element removal. The water sensor is connected to the ECM. When the water in the element reaches 64 cm3 (3.9 in3) the ECM issues a high speed
controller area network (CAN) bus message to the instrument cluster to display a 'WATER IN FUEL' message in the message
centre.

As Paddi says, the later version is behind a vertical heat shield (not mentioned in the excerpt above). 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Thanks again guys! Found it behind the metal heat shield, which was held in place by three bolts. Took it off to reveal a non-genuine Land Rover fuel filter (thanks LR garage!) so on went the genuine fuel filter. Thank goodness I found the workshop manual that I thought has disappeared (this would also have lead me to the fuel filter), which detailed the correct procedure for fitting it. Half an hour jobbie. Well worth it. Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.

Thumbs Up

Well done. Not the most pleasant of jobs.

It seems surprisingly often that doing maintenance yourself uncovers bodges and cheap parts. Last time I changed mine found bolt had been removed from the heatshield to replace the one lost from the transmission shield. Censored s 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Oh yes. My RRS had a full LR service history when I bought it. So which LR garage fitted an undersized battery I wonder? I know which LR garage managed to forget to connect/tighten various pipes and fittings when they took the body off.

Indeed, looking around my RRS, there's a history of bolts that have been lost or snapped off - notably the front bumper lower fixings and undertray bolts. I replace them when I find them and if I can remove the stub.

At £100/hr I expect better... Whistle 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

£100 per hour what a Censored joke........ I'd never take mine there, I found a local Indie 5 miles away with all the diagnostics, and indeed look after your car and take care in there work. Fully kitted out with all the ramps and even let me help out and look round the Rangie Thumbs Up

I don't take it there anymore; it goes to an indie now.

In fairness (to me Thumbs Up ) most of the work done to it at the LR garage has been paid for by warranty so the cost wasn't to me. However, had I known that you can take a LR Extended warranty to an indie I would have done so earlier. Thumbs Up 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
