I've been searching for the fuel filter and no luck. I've removed the engine undershield, and the other large grey plastic undershield ("transmission undershield"?) and I still can't see it anywhere. Is there anything else I need to remove before I see it? Apparently it's drivers side near the fuel tank cover, but can't find it anywhere.

TO DO: color code sills and pillars.

If it is similar to the TDV8 then after removing the transmission plastic shield you should be able to see a vertically mounted heatshield . remove that and the fuel filter is behind it.  2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

The location changed on the 2.7 in the 2006MY - 2007MY changes.

controller area network (CAN) bus message to the instrument cluster to display a 'WATER IN FUEL' message in the message
centre.

Thanks again guys! Found it behind the metal heat shield, which was held in place by three bolts. Took it off to reveal a non-genuine Land Rover fuel filter (thanks LR garage!) so on went the genuine fuel filter. Thank goodness I found the workshop manual that I thought has disappeared (this would also have lead me to the fuel filter), which detailed the correct procedure for fitting it. Half an hour jobbie. It seems surprisingly often that doing maintenance yourself uncovers bodges and cheap parts. Last time I changed mine found bolt had been removed from the heatshield to replace the one lost from the transmission shield. s 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

A how too with pictures would be fantastic

When does it have to be replaced ie age / miles.

Oh yes. My RRS had a full LR service history when I bought it. So which LR garage fitted an undersized battery I wonder? I know which LR garage managed to forget to connect/tighten various pipes and fittings when they took the body off.

Indeed, looking around my RRS, there's a history of bolts that have been lost or snapped off - notably the front bumper lower fixings and undertray bolts. I replace them when I find them and if I can remove the stub.

£100 per hour what a joke........ I'd never take mine there, I found a local Indie 5 miles away with all the diagnostics, and indeed look after your car and take care in there work. Fully kitted out with all the ramps and even let me help out and look round the Rangie

I don't take it there anymore; it goes to an indie now.

In fairness (to me ) most of the work done to it at the LR garage has been paid for by warranty so the cost wasn't to me. However, had I known that you can take a LR Extended warranty to an indie I would have done so earlier.  2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
