Cluncking

I am getting occasional clunking from rear on when driving slow over cats eyes etc. I took a look underneath - the rear mufflers are attached with rubber mounts - I can move the cans enough by hand to clunck against the heat shield bolts . Also the damping weights near the rear bumper will hit the mounting bolts if I swing them back far enough - this is the only things that I can see are obviously loose (I changed swaybar bushes and links a month ago that fixed different knocking sound). Should the exhaust and damping weights be able to knock against things back there ?

Did you check for play in the ball joints on the ARB linkes. Sway bar bushes ? Do you mean the ARB 'D' bushes. Rock the car see if you can hear any knocking. Check the front D bushes etc. check for worn sus bushes.. 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

Our 05 RRS has some aftermarket mufflers fitted (they were there when we bought it) and the damping weights do indeed knock against the mufflers over various bumps and bits of road. Every home should have one!

Had exactly the same- drove me mad. Took it to my local exhaust place, they applied a little heat and bent one side of the exhaust away from the balance weight things. All good now

Yes - I replaced the arb (swaybar) d bushes and drop links - so i don't think noise is coming from there (previous noise from that was different). All I noticed that was loose was exhaust - but didn't see any obvious bolts missing - it just rocks on its rubber mounts.

I guess it could be control arm bushing - but wouldn't that knock more on breaking or acceleration ? Mine is kocking when driving in straight line at low speed over a small bump like cats eye

If you drive forward slowly then tap the brakes do you get the knock, if so then it's prob the front sus arm lower rear bushes, most then change the complete bottom arm but I normally change just the bush. 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

No Cluncking on braking .. Just rattle type sound or clunck from rear - worst at low speed when driving over uneven pavement. I think I'm going to remove the wheels and check the torque on all the arb/sway bar bolts again .... Seems like rear control arms are unlikely source for this ?

Checked underneath this weekend - yes the right side muffler is close to the counter balance weight and you can swing it on its rubber mount so it clunks against there - but swaybar link bolts were also a bit loose after last off road adventure - so I tightened those up - must loctite them next time - and test drove - no more clunck - so I think that was it ...hard to get a torque wrench in there so just used 18mm ratcheting wrench - stock is 17mm I think - on upper bolt that connects link to swaybar (arb)
