A good output will vary. Anywhere from the high 13s up to low 15s is OK. High 15s and up and it's too much. Low 13s downwards is bad too. Naturally, other vehicles vary (the 3.0 SDV6, for instance, charges at lower voltages).

Is changing the alternator with ACE that much harder than one without? I was born with a photographic memory. Shame it didn't develop!

at tickover mine puts out 14.7v so a replacement alternator seems to be your first move as you say ,,,, even though it may be a welcome one !! 2010 RRS, TDV8

Note, the voltage is far from accurate (but it can still give a general idea). I presume from your posts that you have an HDC fault message etc.? If so, you will indeed likely find the battery and/or alternator to be at fault but the only way to get a true reading is using a multimeter at the battery directly. Correct, the engine has been turning a little slow over the last few weeks. However my brake sensors have activated and I will be changing pads and discs over the weekend. I will wait until then to see if it clears the gremlin. |

A dicky battery or alternator can give you a few odd gremlins and false faults remember.

So do you think I should get the battery and alternator checked before changing my brake pads and installing new sensor. What should the voltage read at the terminals?
