Hello, I'm a newbie

Good evening guys and girls,

I'm Gavin, and looking at buying a RRS hse, I've been looking around and seen some great deals but I haven't got all the money yet as need to sell a few cars first, I'm looking at something that I can climb into, not fall into when entering a car and these beauty's seem to fit the bill on looks and engine for what I want.

Can any one give me any pointers on what to look for when I get around to finally buying one ?

I'm looking at diesel really, but unless you can convince me tha petrol is better. IDon't do a lot of miles but I get fuel cheap every now and again. 😉

Budget I'm not sure really , possibly upto 12k at a push but I need to sell my motors first . I'm getting moaned at as I have to many.

£12k may not be enough to get an RRS that is anything other than fairly tired. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

As said above 12k just isn't enought you need to be looking at 16k and upwards there plenty on auto trader at that price. I would personally use a trader ad get a warranty !

Good luck 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current
2009 TDCi 90 current
2018 Discovery 5 HSE lux current
1994 Dakar current

I'm just going to have to save some more, but I have identified this as my next set of wheels.
What's the better engine to go for?

Thank you for the info so far.

The petrol engined RRS are cheaper to buy. If you're not doing many miles in it then the relatively poorer fuel use figures are less of a problem. The petrol engines seem to be a bit more reliable too - at least there are no turbos to fail etc.

If you do go diesel then you're likely to be looking at the 2.7 TDV6. The TDV8 will tend to be leggier for the same money - they're also a bit more temperamental than the TDV6, sadly. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

That car is £5000 more than you expect to pay. The price it is offered at, is internet price. Their site price is probably that £1600 dearer as they will take PX. Also 99000 Miles ,has it had belts changed itisme

As said, belts should have been done on age - was the oil pump changed? It is very important that it has been/is done. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Same applies regarding the oil pump. Wink

The only way to tell if it's any good is with a (very) thorough check of the car. Nice low mileage though. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Second one looks better, not chavved amd Cairns Blue is a good colour. But get a thorough inspection with a good Indy before you part with one quid of money.

I have a boat...... Laughing

usually the petrol cars are cheaper, and lower miles/less worn at the same age/price point...you get more petrol car for your money

it may be false economy to spend more on a higher mileage diesel ...if you are not doing say >10K miles a year then it could take years to pay for itself in fuel savings

I avg about 18mpg in my 4.2 petrol. A friend with an early 2.7 gets about 25mpg ....you work out the cost of diesel compared to petrol and you may as well find the best petrol car out there...

/thats my logic anyway, im driving V8s so long as they are legal, before everything goes electric Smile cheers
