Shiny tailpipes on 11-reg TDV6 HSE

I've been contemplating some blingy tailpipes now that new cars are getting increasingly intricate shapes, built-into the bumpers with minimal gaps. Plain round, dirty, pipes almost hidden, are looking so last year!

Anyway I was crawling around under the rear bumper yesterday, struggling to fit a patent spare wheel anti-theft thingy ( what a job - I hope I never get a puncture!!!) when a faint reflection of my lamp caught my eye ..... coming from a tailpipe. Further investigation and half an hour with the metal polish and I have two nice shiny tailpipes - not seen in daylight yet - probably stainless - could be plated - what a joy - saved me fifty quid probably!

Cheers, Andy 2011 TDV6 HSE Stornoway grey, ivory trim

No need to crawl around under car to get spare wheel off. Just unwind winch enough to drag wheel from under car. To fit the Anti Theft thingy just get enough surplus on cable to slide the tube in place, and put retaining washer on Thumbs Up itisme

The cable was way too short to get the wheel clear - I might try again but it unwound smoothly and came to a definite stop, despite a couple of heaves, no further movement. thanks for the advice ..... I will try again! 2011 TDV6 HSE Stornoway grey, ivory trim

I don't mean to sound patronising but make sure your wheel is the right way round. It should be stored with the outside spokes facing up towards the bottom of the car. The 'dished' inside of the wheel should be facing down & getting road crud thrown onto it.

I've seen an RRS with the wheel the wrong way up & the fitting that goes through the wheel centre was visible from behind the car. I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.

Good thought and not at all patronised! But wheel is outside up.

FWIW the handbook advises lowering the spare wheel flat onto the ground, but clearly it would be a lot easier if it would come aft of the rear bumper and stand upright .... especially with the anti-theft thingy making it awkward. 2011 TDV6 HSE Stornoway grey, ivory trim

Anti theft. Does a MY11 car need this to save the wheel getting knicked?

I thought this only affected older model

I am not sure wether this is a landrover modification,or if someone has come up with a good idea. I was given mine by a friend who was asked to fit a dish type protector,so it did not need this part. It is suitable for all models. It is a toughened tubethat slides over the spring part of the cable that hangs below the wheel.it is held in place by a special washer. It prevents the Censored cutting the exposed cable withh bolt cutters. The dish type covers the whole of the bottom of the wheel,so the cable cannot seen Thumbs Up itisme
