Problem with MY11 TDV6 HSE - Help?

My new RRS has developed the following problem which is proving quite dangerous...

When stopping at a roundabout for example, I spot a gap in the traffic and release the footbrake and apply throttle. The car moves away into the roundabout and then just 'dies' in the middle of the roundabout, the car doesn't stall and the revs don't flare up but you can be applying quite a lot of throttle and the car just doesn't move for about 3-4 seconds. Then suddenly the car gets a gear and takes off. Nearly had a car in the side of me on the roundabout yesterday.

It like the gearbox doesn't know which gear to select.

It also happens when stopped at traffic lights. Lights go green and car pulls away and then dies before waking up again.

It has done this around 10 times or so in the past 800 miles so it works perfectly for 99% of the time but is very disconcerting.

Waiting for call back from dealer service dept to get car booked in.

Anybody have any ideas or had the same problem?

Loving the car but thought I might get to 1000 miles before problems set in!

Have you played with the terrain settings? Mine used to don then when i used to comeout of using the snow mode....and it would not go anywhere when I put my foot down...and yes you're right, it's very scary....

Call LR assistance out quick hand let them plug a diagnostic into it and see if any fault codes come up...

Would loose terminals cause that though? When I say the car 'dies' the engine doesn't stop and the electrics all stay on, it's just like the car has no drive. It's not in neutral because the car won't rev, the car just sits there even though you have half throttle. It then suddenly wakes up and you take off....

I haven't used any modes apart from normal or dynamic. But yesterday I hadn't used either since the start of the journey and it did this about 3 miles into the journey....

And twice on the way home.....

Mate just call LR assistance before it goes in, best to know what's happening and the LR assist guys can help. When you call, check they are sending a LR technician and not anyone else....

Get it to a dealership (or looked at by LA) asap... just a matter of time before it stops totally and you'll be sat on the roadside waiting for a low loader!

A bad earth might, i'm only guessing really, LR will probably say its down to some dodgy fuel. As said above let the professionals sort it out

I'll wait a couple of days until it goes to the local dealership. Can't see the point in calling assistance as the car only does it say 1 time out of 100 or more....

Was just wondering if any else had seen the same symptoms and knew the cause...

It's only had BP ultimate diesel so not dodgy fuel if they blame that!

Probably a simple fix, but just let your dealer sort it out.

The only similar thing I've seen are in these posts

http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic20251.html

or this guy had a problem with the cable, but I doubt it's that from the sound of your description.

good luck Thumbs Up

The engine management is configured such that power is restricted if the brakes are anything other than completely off.

Do you left foot brake by any chance? I do, and I've run into this.

Any chance you might just be tickling the brake pedal whilst opening the throttle? Even if it's with your size 12 right boot? Wink 2011 RRS HSE 3.0V6

Pretty sure I'm not doing that. But you've got me thinking perhaps it's something to do with sensors on the accelerator or brake pedal, whereas I originally thought it was to do with gearbox. I suppose I'll find out when at the dealer, I just hope I don't get the 'we can't replicate the fault sir' answer as the car isn't really safe to drive like this....
