Try parking the wipers then go to the drivers side wiper arm and at the base is plastic cap. Prise off the cap and remove the nut below it. Pull the wiper arm off the spline and reposition it in the correct parked position. Push back firmly on to the spline and replace and tighten the nut. If this doesn't work or only temporarily fixes the problem then the spline may be stripped or the linkage damaged. To access the linkage and motor assembly you need only to remove the plenum chamber cover (the plastic panel spanning the base of the windscreen. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

OK, I finally got to this today. I removed the cap and nut but despite pulling hard could not get it to pull off the spline. I felt that I was going to do some damage I pulled so hard but it wouldn't budge. Out of curiosity I then tried just turning the blade assembly in the direction that I wanted and it turned reasonably easily. With the blade assembly set in the right position I put the nut back on and tightened it up. Now, it will not turn so this makes it look like some sort of friction arrangement, not splines.

I removed my wiper blade arms to replace a discoloured / faded plenum cover. At first the wiper arms seem as though they won't budge - a little releasing agent & a lot of force & the arms detach from the spline - fitting is then reversal but if you can twist - turn the arm in situ - it seems the spline may be worn. Definately a spline system

Sorry to hear you struggling with the arm. I use of these and the arm comes off nice and easily with no risk of damage:
