Switched Power - Overhead Console

I am thinking about getting a dash cam and looking at options for switched power. I currently use a street GPS, and offroad GPS, portable UHF radio, and phone charger so power sockets in the front of RRS are a bit rare.

As a result I would like to hardwire the dash cam so ity is totally set and forget. I would like to mount it at the top of the windscreen near the rear vision mirror and will be looking for switched power nearby.

So does anyone know if there is switched power in the interior/map light console that I could steal power from.

The alternative is to mount the dash cap at the top of the windscreen on either the drivers or passenger side and run power up the inside of the pillar trim - but I would prefer not to use this position.

Thanks

hi mate yes there is, I hardwired my speed detector, the wire is green and white I think, there is a post on here somewhere with instructions. however the switch is when you unlock the car and not start the car. ie power goes to the unit as soon as you unlock with the fob.

Looking to fit a dash cam this week myself into our Discovery, found this over on Disco4.co.uk which is quite helpful for hard wiring, although not strictly what you've asked for. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Thanks for both those posts - I normally leave my car unlocked when it is locked in my garage so switched power from the security system might not work for me but something to consider. Looks like I might have to run wring up the pillar.

Thanks
