I am looking to change the autobox fluild in my rrs 2007, does anybody know what box is fitted, can the sump filter be changed, or do i have to change the sump as well, how hard is it to come off on the car, i know you can get the easy change ones, and is there any other fluid like dextron III synthetic that can be used.

You have to change the whole pan as the filter is built in. You can fit the BMW metal pan instead which allows the filter to be changed separately in future.
To remove the pan you have to mess around a bit. I think you have to undo engine mounts but not sure. If you fit the BMW pan then you can remove the existing one in brutal fashion. The forum's Search function will give results.
Not sure what alternative fluids are available. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Filter is a PITA to swap on the TDV6.

Engine mounts need unbolted to raise the engine
Rear gearbox mount needs undone for the same reason

Even then, it takes a bit of wrestling to get it out, and the new one in


That said, I done my own filter at 115k miles, and it was still fairly clean. A proper flush is more than sufficient for these boxes
