My local Land Rover Dealership Servicing Costs

Hi,

The excitement is building as I look forward of collecting my RRS next weekend!! (2006 RRS 2.7 HSE)

In the meantime, I contacted a local dealership for servicing quotes etc - are the prices pretty standard?

Here's their reply:

Services are:

· 7th/ 105K service £1,30079Inc (A service with cambelts)

· 8th / 120K service £580.88Inc (B service)

· 9th / 135K service £464.59inc (A service)

· 10th/ 150K service £1,198.74Inc (B Service with rear locking differential)

· 11th/ 165K service £392.90Inc (A service)

· 12th/ 180K service £580.88Inc and continues like this A/B/A/B

To have a spare key replaced, the cost would be as follows:

Parts £132.80 + VAT = £159.36Inc

Programming £62.50 + VAT = £75Inc (Takes 30 mins and we will require the other key to be available also)

___________________________

Luckily whilst browsing my local free paper last night I noticed that a family run independent 3 miles away specialises in Land Rovers...

I've asked them for a comparison too.

What do you think of the prices above - pretty standard?

Thanks,
Simon

Standard but high at the same time, TBH.

Independent (a good one) is probably the route on your age of car. Mike

Wales 2005 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange

105k to 150k = 3-4 years motoring and service costs of £3,500 plus all the other things that will go wrong. At over 100k miles I'd save my money for the repair bills and get a local independent to service it without going over the top. on what I assume is a £10-£14k vehicle ?

.  RR Sport Supercharged Vesuvius Orange 4.2 V8 First edition

Prefer RR Vouge S/C but they don't do Orange !

Yes agreed.

My local independent are Land Rover specialists with and an Autologic Diagnostics Land Rover Diagnostic & Tuning Centre.

This gives us full "Dealer-Level" Servicing, Diagnostics and Programming capabilities for Land Rover & Range Rover vehicles.

So I should count myself lucky they're just 3 miles down the road....and a good family business.

My RRS had a new engine fitted by LR 4 years ago - so the car has done 106k but the engine just 60k - presuming then that the cam belts don't need changed for either 45k miles or 3 years, whichever sooner.

S

Way too high, the 105k inc belts at Stratstone in Lye is only £599 at the moment

Ask you dealer to price match, most will do it Thumbs Up

Yeah but knowing stratstone they will be using clothing belts - 2nd hand at that! Rolling with laughter

Your prices are high, but still not unknown dealer high - Worth noting a dealer labour rate is usually/easily £100ph +VAT

Also worth noting, the price you ask like this (or get from the board) is not the price you will receive at the time you ring up and ask

Autologic - the only real diagnostic software - If you know them and are happy with them, then an indi is the way to go Mike

Thanks guys.

Yes and I'm told that certain configuration options on the Autologic are not available on the dealer tools, so it allows specialist independents greater freedom to personalise vehicles.

Can anyone explain to me what re-mapping is/does and is it worth doing? Will I get more BHP?

Thanks,
S

One way I have found to keep costs a bit lower while keeping comprehensive dealership history, was to source your own parts.

Ring your stealership up and see what parts and price they are charging for that service and I would say try amongst others dan at duck worth or steve at advanced factors to see what they can do.

My local dealer charges £70 for 6 litres of oil where as I can get the same oil and all filters for 'B' service delivered for £70 all in from advanced factors using oem quality parts. And at service give them just labour cost.

Always buy genuine filters and essential parts - never get knock-offs, but save on labour, most independents will stamp your book Thumbs Up Mike

Hi Guys,

Just as an update regarding servicing and costs - my 'local' independent LR specialists just got back to me with their prices - as follows:

HEALTH CHECK
We do lots of these for our customers when there looking to buy a new vehicle.
These cost £70+vat (£84 including vat)
This includes a full check over on our ramps, under body inspection/ report, engine area check, visual brake check (through the wheels). And just a general overview of any work required now or in the future.

TIMING BELT/ CAMBELT REPLACEMENT
Provided your vehicle is a TDV6 then yes you are correct it will not require replacement until 105,000 miles OR 7 years.

Job Estimate to replace the Timing Belt Kit is:
This includes:
-Injection Pump Belt
-Timing Belt
-Both Tensioners
-Both Idle Rollers

£723 including parts,labour and vat.

SERVICING
Yes we do follow Land Rovers Servicing Schedules.
We use a program called Auto Data . This allows our technicians to look up the exact vehicle according to year, make/ model, engine size/ type and engine code for the service required at the current mileage or months. Whilst also taking into account work done at last service etc. (we can also do others size servicing as requested by you the customer.)

Here are two Job Estimates based on a Land Rover Range Rover TDV6, 2006, 56 plate:

Interim Service
This will include:
-Engine Oil & Oil Filter replacement
-Air Filter & Cabin (Pollen) Filter Replacement
-All Lights checked
-Full on ramp inspection.
-Free Front and Rear Brake Inspection (removing wheels on ramp)

£256.14 including parts,labour and vat.

Major Service
This will include:
-Engine Oil & Oil Filter replacement
-Air Filter & Cabin (Pollen) Filter Replacement
-All Light checked
-Full on ramp inspection.
-Free Front and Rear Brake Inspection (removing wheels on ramp)
AS ABOVE PLUS
-Fuel Filter replacement
-Axle Oils to be checked and added where required (price allows for 4 litres of 75/90 Oil)
-Update of vehicles various Modules with Auto Logic machine/ Current Software

£422.28 including parts,labour and vat.

In Our Experience we also recommend a "Automatic Gear Box Service" between 60-80,000 miles. If not already carried out this can save any damage to the automatic gearbox.
This includes all new Gearbox Oil, Filters and pan.

£459 including, parts, labour and vat.

NEW KEY & PROGRAMMING
We can provide you with a new key no problem at all. It would be best for us to see the vehicle and the current key before providing you with a price for this.
Programming is easy with our Land Rover Auto Logic Machine. We can program a new key and your current key.
The cost for Programming Keys is:

£65 +vat ( £78 including vat) plus the cost for a new key.
________________________________________________________________

All looks good to me - if I'm picky, their programming cost is £3 more than the LR dealership! lol

What do you guys think?

Thanks,
Simon
