England 2007 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Zermatt Silver

Guys,

Another local Land Rover dealer just got back to me with as follows:

The service bands on a Range Rover Sport- every 15,000 miles or a year

The vehicle is 7 years old- the next service would be 105k service- with the cambelt- normal price £1300.00

This service not required if a new engine fitted- just recommend a yearly service & good check over £430.00 inc vat

The price for a second key £232.00 inc vat & also includes programming
_________________________________________

Again, HUGE price for the cam belt change and MASSIVE price for the new spare key!!! BUT, the annual service at £430 inc VAT seems reasonable and competitive...

Agree?

Thanks,
Simon

IMHO, anything over £400 for all 3 belts is excessive, unless the oil pump is being replaced at the same time Thumbs Up

Key cost is about average, but there are ways to save mobey on parts. TLO on the D3 forum can supply a key for around £130 or so, then a plug in charge to code to the car.

Service costs are about average too Thumbs Up

In Our Experience we also recommend a "Automatic Gear Box Service" between 60-80,000 miles. If not already carried out this can save any damage to the automatic gearbox.
This includes all new Gearbox Oil, Filters and pan.

£459 including, parts, labour and vat.

What do you guys think?

Thanks,
Simon

That's very, very expensive! I paid less then £200 for a gearbox oil and filter change at an indie and that included using ZF-branded oil. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

England 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Zermatt Silver

My RRS was 1st registered in Mar 2006.

I bought it 13 months later (Apl 2007) with 17,000 miles on the clock. OK mileage was a tad high admittedly for a year old vehicle. It was all mainly motorway stuff and was previously owned by a rep. (The Sat Nav destinations were still loaded).

I had it regularily serviced by my local Landrover dealership up till last year. The costs of servicing were getting ridiculous for a vehicle that has covered 30,000 miles to date. Local Westover Landrover say that it is NOT the mileage on the clock... it is the age of the vehicle which says what type of service is due. My last one was classed as 105,000 service and cost over £1000.00.

Thoughts anyone ?

Wow...that sounds expensive to me!!

Is that a dealership?

Find a local independent that specialises in Land rovers/range rovers.

I have lost all confidence in Main Dealers. Whilst i hagled on the price of a service, and got a good price. They get their own back on you. They let an unsupervised apprentice lose on your car. Then about 10 months down the line, when i got a puncture i found that two of the wheel nuts had been cross threaded. They denide any knowledge of it. But i have seen these so called fitters, use an Air gun to do up wheel nuts without starting the thread off by hand first itisme

I also had a friend who took his New Ferrari for a service at a well known main dealer. He got down the road and realized he had left something he needed, in the car. So he went back. Went into the workshop, and saw a young lad with his head in the engine compartment. He asked what he was doing. The lad replied i am doing a service. My friend went off his trolly, and called the manager told him he wanted a top fitter to service his car,as he had worked very hard to purchase this car and was paying top money for this service. My friend was lucky to be able to get into the workshop. Most dealers will not let you see what goes on in there.n I once saw a fitter throw a worksheet Clip board onto the bonnet of a customers car itisme

This could be a long thread if we are going to swop anecdotes like that Laughing

Many years ago I used to have my fairly new Porsche 944 Turbo serviced at an Official Porsche Centre and paid to have the gearbox oil changed more than once. Eventually I became tired of their stratospheric prices and had it serviced at a local Porsche specialist.

The specialist called me to say the gearbox drain plug was very tight and would I approve of them welding a tool to the plug to remove it (gearbox is a magnesium casting - so risky). The plug was safely removed and the technicians said the oil that drained out was 'like mud' and had clearly never been changed. Incidentally the gearbox is a transaxle and on my model incorporates a limited slip diff so changing oil is even more important!

Worse than that; the owner of the workshop told me they had received visits from Porsche technicians offering to sell boxes of perfectly good parts they had renewed on customer's cars unnecessarily.

To be fair this was in the bad old days when the OPCs were franchises (one I used was run by HR Owens). Possibly one of the reasons that Porsche took over all the OPCs and now run themselves. Prices are still high but the standard of service is higher (and yes - they do let me in the workshop). 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Get your 2nd key from your local indie, the price is around £120 inc VAT, mine programmed the key for free as it takes less than 90 seconds, 30 minutes is total crap, they tell you this to justify their £120 an hour labour charge

Programming £62.50 + VAT = £75Inc (Takes 30 mins and we will require the other key to be available also) 07,TDV8,Black, Black Heated leather all round, Rear Entertainment with Headpones & Remote, TV, DVD, Pure Dab Digital Radio, Sidesteps, Adaptive Headlights, sunroof, now working fuel burning heater Smile)))

A few years ago my friend owned a small repair and servicing garage. and had frequent visits from a fitter from a Ford main agents. Offering Plugs, Points, Rocker Gaskets, and Air Filters, very cheap. He said that when a car came in for a service. If there was not any tappet noise. They would not do any adjustment but would charge for new gasket, Same with Plugs and points, and sometimes Air Filters. They were drawn from Stores but were not used ,Customers were charged for them. This shows there is not enough supervision in their workshops. itisme
