I'd rather it wasn't, as it would cost me a whole lot more.

Though in a way, we already do, with fuel duty...

Don't know what you complaining about Whistle mine is £500 a year and usually covers about 3000 miles. Big Cry
Actually makes no sense, my L200 is £130 a year. My lorry was £1600 plus new registration tax = £2800. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

As we all know, its a big con this vehicle tax Whistle My L200 back in the day of 2005 was classed as a commercial and came under the LGV tax class, it was IIRC £185 per year to tax it. It could carry 1 pallet. I also have 3, 7.5 tonne gross weight wagons, they can carry 12 pallets each, to tax them for a year is only £165 each and has been for many years. The price hasn't gone up as expected each year as other vehicle duties have. Work that one out. Confused

Think the previous l200 was 185, new one is Euro 5 so cheep cheep. Think our Atego is 175.00 as 7.5 tonne, Mitzy Canter 3.5 tonne is the same. Rolling Eyes give up trying to work out their logic. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Government wants to avoid being seen to be hitting small business in the pocket - that's why "commercial" vehicles are taxed more cheaply than cars.

Everyone knows that 4x4 are driven by rich folk who can afford the VED so they're an easy (and unsupported by the masses) target. Whistle 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Ours is about $700 per year (364 quid) but it includes compulsory third party insurance. So, if you don't want fire, theft or comprehensive, that's it for the equivalent of road tax and third party all covered. It's quite a good system ans if you have valid rego, you have valid third party cover. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6
Gone - 2009 Buckingham Blue RRS 2.7 TDV6
Gone - 2010 Alaska White RRS 5.0 V8 Aspirated
Gone - 2017 Chawton White RRS 5.0 V8 Supercharged
Current - 2010 Java Black RRS 5.0 V8 Aspirated
Current- 2024 RRS P400 SE Dynamic

£500 for around 3 to 4,000 miles per year for me Sad although I like paying for my tax monthly now with the new rules. What is a major pain though is if you sell a vehicle you can't tell DVLA that you want tax back, you have to wait for them to recieve log book and when they recieve log book and process you get the remaining full months tax back. So if you sell a car towards end of month and DVLA process it on the 1st of the next month you lose that month too in a refund. Thats as I understand it anyway.

I've just gone through this with the car I just sold when buyig my forst Range Rover.

No sympathy, That's still Cheap.

When I was in Malaysia Road tax for a 5.0 SC would have cost £2,060 per annum....good thing I've since moved ....

I think the Danes get hit hard on car tax too. Certainly the first registration tax is over 100% of the value of the car!

I like the system that BKHK mentions - insurance included with tax. That seems like a sensible idea. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

petrol prices are down and my guess is that the savings on petrol are enough to cover the road tax Thumbs Up Recently bought a 2007 RRS HSE TDV6 for a Pimp-My-Ride-Project.
DONE: Meduza front bumper, AB rear bumper, AB tailpipes, calipers repainted, rear upper tailgate upgrade, side steps, AB front grille, AB side vents, rear LED lights, clear side repeaters, integrated daytime running lights, LED headlights.
TO DO: color code sills and pillars.
