35w vs 55w bulbs

Just bought some 35w D2S bulbs. I've just read that the RRS bulbs are 55w D2S - will my 35w bulbs be under powered and less bright?

i would say yes, never done a car but my houses 55w replaced with 35w are noticeable and dimmer

not sure but will the power supply unit cope with 35w, or will it be overpowering them thinking they are 55w and lead to blowing early

i think the power ballast will be able to cope with the difference between 35w/55w

I suppose it will be down to you and the dark country road and whether you will be able to see or not

personally if i have 55w i wouldn't be downgrading to a lower wattage and having less light outfront Confused

I fitted a 35w HID kit to my 1988 BMW E30 some years back (had fisheye lenses rather than reflectors). After one burner blew, I ordered a set of 55w. The difference was night and day (no pun intended) and was comparable to dipped vs main beam IMO.

Cheers..

Ian

I've recently put these in my RRS:
http://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/66240xnb-...3821-p.asp
They are plenty bright enough. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Misprint!

The standard D2S is always 35w LR part number XBI000030. You can get 55w from various internet sources but they would be modifications and most likely would need new ignitors, we would not sell them. The Halogen H7 for high beam is 55w. Paul Redding

Doubt you were at risk, if you bought 55w ones to run with your standard Ignitor (Ballast) pack I would expect them to be just poor rather than dangerous.

With Xenon bulbs there is no filament so it is all about igniting the gas inside and there is miles of difference in good ones and cheap ones, Stick with Osram, Phillips or other well known brands, they tend to live up to their claims in terms of performance. Paul Redding
