United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Bali Blue
New Crankshaft RRS 2008 2.7tdi

Hi All
I'm a new member and need some advice. I have a rrs 2.7.tdv6 and have noticed a low tone knocking noise while engine ticking over.the car has done 68 k and was due for a service so I took it a local rr garage, not a Land Rover dealership, and called to say they had taken the timing belt off as they thought the noise was coming from that area.they then called to say there is to much play in the crank
There should be .5 mm but I mine can be moved by hand 2mm and that's what they think the problem is.they said the crank cannot be replaced and that I need a replacement engine 😟😟 the noise is a low drone type noise.
Help please

End float? That's crank moving back and forth front to back. If the crank moves up and down by 2 mm it and sump would be on floor. Sounds like thrust bearing failure, usually associated with starting a car with clutch pressed so if an auto impossible. Am sure it's possible to refurbish the crank and for oversized bearings to be fitted but probably not cost affective. It does sound like oil supply failing so factor in new oil pump to price. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

If the car has a full main dealer service history, then it may be worth dropping Pete at Customer services a pm. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

The garage I went to said approx£5/7 K to replace engine? Seems drastic as might only be crank ?

Just checked service book and has 3 main dealer stamps and 3 from Ongar garage which is a Land Rover garage but not a main dealer.
