Sounds like an alternator problem, get them both checked out if left the alternator if bad can take the battery down as well.

Thanks for the quick reply, Ime no mechanic but if the alternator was not charging the battery would the battery last a hour long journey in the dark with lights on etc, ime totally confused lol, went out and started car just now and it started fine, no dim lights or slow turn over, and I can't fathom out how the stereo is fine with engine running but not when driving, thanks for any help as its stopping me from pulling my hair out over this

The alternator can 'start' to fail with low voltage but not 'no' voltage until it's too late.

quick update, got a new battery put in the car and all is well again, well for now anyway |
