Vehicle Inspection Completed - Advice Required

Just got Betsy back from Steve Parks, and a few things have come to light. The car was purchased 2 weeks ago today from a dealer (Extreme Sports & Performance). I could do with a little advice on what I am actually covered for etc etc. Also, which of the issues (if not covered by warranty) could a competent mechanic complete?

Here is the original advert on eBay:

http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/RANGE-ROVER-SPOR...7675.l2557

The car is under warranty from "Customer Protect" under Silver Plus:

http://www.autoprotect.co.uk/customer-protect

The details of the inspection are:

* Air Flow Meter Zero Reading
* RH EGR Valve stuck at 5%
* RH Front Lower Suspension Arm Ball joint worn, some wear to LH ball joint
* Locking wheel nuts splitting
* Oil Level low
* Suspect oil leak from LH Rear cam oil seal
* Transfer box oil leak
* Rear pads worn 90%
* Rear discs worn
* Some corrosion to ARC Pipes - Advise to clean up and grease with copper grease

With the listed oil leaks, there has been no oil on my driveway.

As always, advice and guidance really appreciated! Thumbs Up

The link doesn't work mate. Personally, I would e mail that list to the dealer and very politely ask them if they are happy to have sold a car like that and leave the ball in their court for a while.
What year is it?

Spain

Talk to seller, also talk to Warranty Company

You need to get these sorted
* Suspect oil leak from LH Rear cam oil seal
* Transfer box oil leak
* RH EGR Valve stuck at 5% (This can be blanked)
* Air Flow Meter Zero Reading (Remap Specialist did not find this!!!!!)
* RH Front Lower Suspension Arm Ball joint worn, some wear to LH ball joint Has the Car had a new MOT, if so this should have been picked up.

Simple fix
* Rear pads worn 90%
* Rear discs worn (depends how warn)
* Some corrosion to ARC Pipes - Advise to clean up and grease with copper grease
* Locking wheel nuts splitting (New wheel nuts)
* Oil Level low In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

Ive emailed the dealer and cc'd in Steve Parks. Will wait to see what he comes back with. The EGR is being blanked on Tuesday anyway. I don't really want to do anything until I know if/what I'm covered for.

What concerns me is Tha the car has apparently "just" been serviced (but the oil needed topping up, and it has just got a new MOT..... 2006 HSE for Sale - £7,499 (Manchester)

I would have emailed the garage with the list of faults, followed it up with a phone call if they hadn't got back intouch within an hour of sending the email, ask to speak to the dealer principle, and ask them what they are going to do to put the vehicle right and go from there. If they put the onus on the warranty company and tell you to contact them, contact them with the list of faults that you have received from your inspection, and explain you were sold the vehicle like this and not as described in the advert. I'm sure the warranty company will be straight on the phone to the garage you bought your car off. Option 2, Ask for a full refund and shop elsewhere. Option 2 would be my one and only choice.
Good luck, keep us updated.

Thanks for the advice.

Found this an interesting read:

http://www.theaa.com/motoring_advice/car-b...ights.html

I have 30 days to get my money back, I'm on day 13.

Steve Parks said not to panic and the car was in good condition. Its just these bits. Will wait to see what the dealer comes back with.

I have kept every email between us, and also a physical print out of both adverts (eBay and Website). I'm sure things will get sorted! Whistle 2006 HSE for Sale - £7,499 (Manchester)

Your beef is with the dealer - don't be fobbed off by what's or isn't covered in the 3rd Party warranty. These faults obviously existed prior to sale so under Consumer Law the dealer must correct them - it does not matter to you whether or not there is a contribution from the warranty firm. The warranty only covers faults arising after you take responsibility and ownership of a Fit for Purpose vehicle.

Keep the selling firm on the hook - if they won't agree to rectify the faults get a quote from a LR Dealer and send to your seller saying they have 7 days to agree other wise you will action the repairs and claim the costs plus your reasonable out-of-pocket expenses via the Small Claims Court.

Don't mess about.

Thanks for the advise.

Will persue the matter. Ive emailed the seller (no response yet). Everything is documented, and I've read up on my legal rights etc. I'm keeping the car, as apart from these bits its sound. Just glad I invested my money in an inspection for my piece of mind!

If I need to go to small claims then I will do.

I'm sure everything will be resolved amicably. 2006 HSE for Sale - £7,499 (Manchester)

Yeah, I get the age of the car and the mileage, but the advert clearly states that the car is fault free. It had just had an MOT, so a few of the issues would have been noticed then.

I was also told it had just been serviced, but the car needed oil topping up as it was low....? Surely in 2 weeks it wouldn't be that low?? 2006 HSE for Sale - £7,499 (Manchester)

I think my main concern would be, if you take the best case scenario and it was serviced recently as they say, then where has that oil gone? Was it s LR service or was it the dealer who sold it?

Upon investigation, the last service was completed by the sellers garage. How could I validate?

Ive also emailed the Land Rover deals who the car was purchased from, along with all of its previous services, to try and establish what work they have completed on the car etc. Not sure how helpful they will be yet. 2006 HSE for Sale - £7,499 (Manchester)

Response from the seller:

It most definitely has been serviced, it has full history by JV Likes (LR main dealer not an Indy). They only use LR products, my mechanic uses Fram filters, I can get the part number of the oil / air filter used that you will find fitted in the engine.
The oil used was Synta full synthetic 5/30 as supplied by TPS, you'd be very welcome to not only ID the filters but also the oil.
I hope this doesn't come across as arrogant, if I promise it's been serviced I can promise it's been serviced Smile
The warranty is a mechanical & electrical one and doesn't cover wear & tear, no aftermarket warranty would.
The AFM would be covered but not wear / tear in joints etc especially on an 8 year old 4x4 with 126k under her belt. The transfer box was definitely not leaking on the point of sale as I used to park it on my new drive so I'd have noticed..........or my wife certainly would!
However, If it has started to leak then I'd be more than happy to get this repaired for you and whilst it's here if the brakes are deemed low ( this surprised me somewhat as I have Brembo pads etc here so don't mind changing them) these will also be replaced for you
.

Think that's a positive start, just emailed back to clarify each issue in detail. 2006 HSE for Sale - £7,499 (Manchester)
