ACC Automatic Cruise Control

Ok this is getting a bit frustrating now, my ACC see's things that are'nt there!!!, I can be cruising along say at 100/120mph and without warning, ie, nothing in front of me, the car applies the Brembo's which scares the Censored out of you at that speed, I thought maybe it's because i'm driving a RHD in Germany and possibly with the ACC unit situated on the left, me driving on the right, it could be picking up structures like bridges etc, but last night on a completly empty straight road it did it again! In UK only being able to do 70-90 MPH being sharply slowed is not to much of a problem, but out here where the autobahns are bigger longer and not as congested, having the ankers applied at 120MPH + is not good news. has anyone else experienced this. Confused Speed Limits! not where I live!

Yep happens a lot, especialy on righthand corners when you are over taking, I drive a lefthand drive TDV8, the ACC is in the same place on both RHD and LHD cars.
I have the cruise distance set to the shortest distance and that helps Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

Why did they not provide an option to switch the automatic off and just have normal cruise control. Maybe they have and I just don't know how to do this! 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8, Stornoway Grey

I've a vague idea dealers can disable ACC by turning off the module, but I don't think there's a user function to do so...

If there is no option to switch the automatic off (either by the driver or the dealer) then maybe you could place something infront of the radar sensor mounted on the front bumper so as to block it from detecting objects ahead. This will disable it as and when you want to. Just a thought. Smile Malaysia Boleh!

Would that not send it into panic mode and slam the brakes on and ask for the driver to intervine? Sons of dogs come hither and get flesh

I would have thought so. It would surely see the "something" as a VERY close object and either not work at all or apply the brakes.

I don't think it will slam the brakes especially if you're just starting the vehicle, until and unless you're covering the radar sensor whilst driving at 100 MPH!
But yes, you may be right. It will probably warn you of an obstruction at the sensor and deactivate ACC altogether. Malaysia Boleh!

There are materials out there that absorb radar waves (rather than reflect them), so if you could find some tape or some such that didn't reflect the waves back again then there might be some legs in that. Where the hell you'd get such a thing I don't know - your local arms provider maybe? Wink

Prestik or BluTack (sp?) works for the PDC, maybe it will work for the ACC too?
You'll need a whole packet though, if you want to cover the sensor Laughing would look like you hit a big bird or something

If you cover the ACC sensor, the cruise doesn't work any more. I found this out last week when the ACC was covered in snow and it wouldn't switch on. it should have a switch really for just normal cruise.

Cruise control also dosn't work when towing. and there is a way to turn off the auto part of it, I dunno what I did but I did manage to get it off.
Can't try anthing out with it at the moment as the SWMBO has the car in Belgium and I'm in Scotland and she won't be back for about 6 weeks...

Surely this can be disabled by removing the fuse or relay for the ACC unit?
