Suspension goes into 'Extended mode'

Hello, new here and hoping I can find a solution.

I have an 05 RRS HSE. When I have the vehicle stopped and I try to put the air suspension into 'Access mode' the front will lower then before the back lowers I get a beep and the dash will have the message 'Suspension going to Extended mode' then when the front raises again the dash shows the message 'Suspension reset if obstruction clear'.

Now if i persist and try several times after 3 or 4 presses the vehicle will eventually stay in 'Access mode' but this re-occurs next time I wish to go into Access mode. Also when driving, occasionally (1 out of 5 journeys) the dash will illuminate and the message 'Suspension fault' will appear on the dash.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

More than likely a blocked air dryer, or a blocked exhaust valve Thumbs Up

Dryer can be replaced as a separate part, exhaust valve is not serviceable, and will need a new compressor

Thanks for the reply.

Is there any way I can check either of these before I go buying new parts?

Maybe also a ride height sensor.

Have a look on the 4x4 info screen to see if one wheel goes lower than the others or if when you put it into access mode, if one corner flashes differently to the others. Bodsys Brake Bible

The dryer can be emptied of its contents (silica gel and filters), and put together to test

They can actually be rebuilt with the kits available online. Some have had success with this, others not so lucky.

Thanks Bodsy, I tried this yesterday and it SEEMS to be fine when on the 4x4 screen. The front 2 wheels lower at the same rate to access height then the back ones do not even try, they simply stay on normal mode height and the message pops up. There is no flashing or juddering on the 4x4 screen.

So Mikey if I remove the dryer tonight and take out the inards, put it back on without replacing the inards it should work if the problem does lie with the dryer? Also if this is the case I should try replacing the inards and then rebuilding the dryer.

Okay so I have narrowed it down by hooking up to a computer and the faults are.

" Air not exhausting and filling up too slowly"

I am pressuming I need a whole complete unit? And if so, I would liekly fit myself due to the expense of the part and ease of fitting, but, should I get a new unit for £550+ or a used unit with 1 month warranty from a breakers for around £200-240?

Thanks in advance

Tbh Mikey im nervous of getting to a point where I end up with a broken compressor off the vehicle and then im totally screwed. Or is it a doddle of a job?

Remove the bottom cover, take out 6 bolts holding the end cap on, fish out the internals, refit cap.

If it cures your issues, fit a new dryer. Not to be recommended for long term use
If it doesn't, it needs a compressor

When you say not recommended for long term use. What do you call long term? Is it not pointless then and just worth fitting a new compressor?
