Over the last week or so I have noticed a noise coming from what seems like the rear suspension. The only way I can describe how it sounds is like a set of ladders rattling around beneath the car! Today the noise seems to have got a little worse (more clunky and a bit louder!)

The noise only really happens at lower speeds going over uneven bumps and holes in the road, rather that speed bumps or going up kerbs etc. I had to get a new tyre a month or so ago due to uneven wear - one of the rear tyres was really worn on the inside. Other than that the car drives fine.

Any ideas what could be causing this - cannot really find much on here other than possibly the rear sway bar?

Lots of things make noise at the rear but I would guess drop links if audible at low speeds. Bushes, tie rods and rusty brake back plates are another favorite but don't cause a clonk or knock but rattle nicely. Plenty to keep you busy checking  2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Sounds like the brake shoes which sit inside the drum for the electronic parking brake needs adjusting.
If this hasn't been adjusted properly in the last year get them cleaned and adjusted and at the same time check the backing plate (dust shield).

This sounds a little similar to a noise that's developed on my 2005 RRS SC although mine is coming from the front (at least it seems to be) and sounds like a metal on metal 'clanking'. Not especially loud and not related to going over bumps or braking. It almost sounds like the brake callipers are loose!

I had rear rattle recently and it was the exhaust trim knocking against the enormous lead swinging thing at the back. Got the local exhaust fitter to apply a little heat and force the exhaust over a bit and is now fine
