strange again ! no just me being a tit

just thought i'd post this up as iv'e heard about the electrical gremlins causing all sorts of issues but not experienced till last night.

So, replaced a blown brake light bulb on the weekend, all ok,however, giving daughter no 2 a lift last night and while on the drive i thought i would make sure the brake light was ok by dabbing my foot on the brake and looking in the rearview mirror for the reflection on the house wall, all ok.

Drive down road and the gearbox did not want to change up so revs at about 4000 and not going very fast, like it's stuck in 2nd gear, at more or less the same time the dash starts dinging and lighting up saying something like "Transmission fault " and "hdc disabled" and "car lowered access height only"
So we stop, turn car off for a minute or so and off we go again - same thing Big Cry command shift worked ok so dropped off daughter, came home, looked on here and read about the brake lights and brake light switch issues, hard to believe what i was reading Shocked
Anyway i decide that i would order a new switch when i get to work today, but, car drove with no issues at all going and coming home Rolling Eyes
So i didn't order a switch, just can't believe how tempramental a car can be Shocked

Hi,
Possibly all caused by low voltage owing to low battery charge. Check your battery condition and alternator output. If you search the site there are many post to guide you. The equipment you need is just a basic digital voltmeter. Let us all know how you get on! 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

OK have not replaced the brake light switch yet as all was fine, untill this morning !

light switch in the off position but front fog lights and rear side lights were on and no brake lights Shocked

Turn light switch to side lights and the gearbox plays up - 2nd gear only i think - turn lights back off and all ok untill i touch the brake pedal and the fog lights etc come on again and no brake lights Shocked

Did notice when dabbing brake pedal there was a sort of click from under the gear stick/parking brake switch ?

Can this be a dodgy brake light switch still or something worse Big Cry

The gear stick click when you brake is probably the lock-out solenoid energising.

It does sound like you need to get someone to look at it as it all sounds very odd. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

It's what stops you putting it in drive unless you put your foot on the brake. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I'd try a new, quality bulb and a 'hard' reset.

OK OK hands up, i am a tit Embarassed

when i replaced the bulb the other day , i thought i had put in a stop/tail that i had spare in the garage, but no, it was actually a reverse bulb Rolling Eyes

Realised what i'd done when i changed the brake switch and went to put in a genuine landrover bulb instead

Car seems to be fine now Whistle

Apologies and thanks to all who replied Thumbs Up
