12MY PDC advice.

Embarassed having previously got used to approaching objects & hearing the reassuring bleep of the front Parking Sensors it seems strange that a newer model is a manual operation - I have read the manual but can't seem to find the solution to keep them on permanetly at low speeds Big Cry

Thanks in advance Thumbs Up 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

Mine have only ever come on automatically when selecting reverse on any vehicle I've owned Confused

I've always selected manually whenever pulling forward into tight spaces Thumbs Up Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

As MW said both front and rear sensors are activated once you put the car in R. They stay on when you put it in D until you reach a certain speed. If you are just parking in front without having to reverse, you will need to switch it on manually. Sadly the car is not intelligent enough to tell whether you are parking or tailgating someone in a traffic jam. It could get very annoying in the latter scenario if it started beeping everytime you got close. My MY09 Sport used to do the same as the MY13 does.

You probably already know this but there doesn't seem to be a timeout if you manually switch the sensor on and then off. The car remembers you turned it off and it does NOT come on the next time you are parking during the same driving session (i.e. without siwtching off the engine and restarting). I almost hit objects a couple of times in the early days of my RRS ownership as I was expecting the beeps and got too close to things Embarassed Haven't tried it on the current one and don't know if that was by design or a problem in my old car.

I've never noticed that - will need to go and try it Shocked

Only problem I have is front and rear pdc disabled when caravan attached on MY13 (only rear on MY10 Evil or Very Mad ) and when unhitching are still disabled until engine switched off and restarted - had a couple of close calls parking after unhitching caravan Embarassed Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

This one is just to improve my understanding of the idiosyncrasies of these vehicles ... So on your 2005 RRS, the front sensors activated upon approach to, say, a wall but not to another car on the road, without putting the car into reverse or manually switching on PDC?

During normal driving conditions at very low speeds - the sensors would pick up any object in front of my Sport or any car too close behind. Thumbs Up it acted as a warning - I'm too close or the idiot behind is up my Censored This system is all I have known so therefore the habit is to rely on my sensors not my judgement Thumbs Up

Hope this makes sense Very Happy 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

Makes sense and sounds really useful Thumbs Up My 2009 didn't do that and my 2013 doesn't do it either. Probably ACC related which I didn't have on either car.

If you put your forward alert on and your other half heads for a wall or someone suddenly slows without indicating you will get an audible warning. You can adjust the sensitivity to suit too MY16 AUTOBIOGRAPHY Indus silver with some toys
