Totally agree with BKHK, spend time reading up on here and get to know all the common 'features'! I bought a TDV8 this time last year without doing enough pre homework and all the things you will read about have happened, had I gone in with more prior knowledge I would have been looking for the problems.
Add a strong 1000 pounds on top of your purchase budget to cover running costs of things failing as unless you get a LR warranty, aftermarket warranties are not good enough to cover what goes wrong on these - mine has not paid out once even though it had top level cover - warranywise, will not be buying their product again!
Pay special attention to;
Suspension compressors and level of the car
Turbos, sticking actuators and split pipes
Door locks, rear doors and upper tailgate
Suspension bushes, any knocking noises under braking from slow speed
Service history - fuel filter change along with everything else is really important
Electric seats, move about due play in the mechanism, easy fix
Electronic handbrake - total pain, read up on this one, esp where the emergency release is hidden!
Battery, when was it last changed? Many problems are actually just symptoms of a failing battery as the car is so sensitive.
That is my list of 12 months worth of learning, many of them I have fixed myself after searching on this site, loads of really helpful owners on here who help out when things go wrong
I love the car and when it is behaving it is fantastic. The engine is awesome and make long trips fly by, go for the TDV8, just go in eyes open!! TDV8 Java Black, Overfinch 22s
