United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Cairns Blue
It has to be done.....

Spent the bank holiday searching the net, and found three cars to look at as after last weeks excursion, I can't live with a Fullfat any longer. Having had three blue cars, am tempted to have a fourth, but I am convinced it's the colour that's the problem so either grey or red. Call is, do I buy a TDV8 which I love but had so many issues, or can I survive with a chipped SDV6. Have no idea how well one of the latter will go and more importantly, Tow 1600 kg tintent. Thoughts? 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

I only have experience of a TDV8 and it is truely the best car I have ever owned, and there have been some nice cars in the past. Now 6 or 7 weeks in and no problems so far, hope I haven't just jinxed it. I have pulled tintents with several cars and I would love to get one behind my RRS, not sure it would notice it though, until I needed more diesel. Rolling Eyes

Hence my dilemma. My Sport didn't even blink with tintent or works trailer. Nothing pulls like a V8 so having only had a chipped TDv6 in not sure I could live with the drop in performance long term 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

To be brutally honest I now have a 30SDV HSE which replaced a TDV8 and under normal everyday use and average traffic conditions I can't say I notice any material difference.

Its true the V8 does sound much better but my 30SDV certainly picks-up speed with little issue, in fact because the newer V6 is quieter than the V8 its performance is deceptive.

I drove an SDV6 Disco for a few weeks when my V8 was in dry dock and was impressed with it and the economy, just that thought in back of head about towing. I'm going to make some enquiries with my local dealer and see if they have one with tow bar and borrow it for few hours. If it will pull ok in standard form then with a chip it will be ok for my use. Have been driving a standard V8 for a year nearly and it's been fine, SD isn't a million miles away from that. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

A couple of hours, with the 'van hooked up, would give you time (just plus a bit) to take a trip up Porlock and through Lynton and Lynmouth coming back across Blackmore Gate - you'd soon now if it towed OK Thumbs Up

Not only a good test, but fantastic scenery too! That gorge takes my breath away every time I drive through it.

Simple1 - I have been looking at swapping my TDV8. Having driven the SDV6 you'll have to go for the later one with the 8 speed box in my view as this helps compensate for the lack of grunt compared with the V8.

I've just done 600 miles over 2 days in two, 5hr non-stop journeys in the worst weather Ive experienced up the M6 and M74. The car was a dream, never missed a beat and I just can't bring myself to buy a V6………….even though I know it's the sensible decision. FF 4.4 V8 Soooo looking forward to this bad boy
Ex 2006 RRS SC - garbage
Ex 2016 135i M Sport - dream car
Ex 2003 RS6 Avant - piece of cr*p
Ex 2014 320d X Drive, M Sport Touring - ok I guess
Ex 2007 RRS TDV8 - bloody loved it
EX 2007 FL2 XS - not so bad

Out of interest, what don't you like about the FF Simple1?

Several things. Very Happy I can't get comfortable in the arm chairs and it's the door or centre consol that holds you in, it won't go round a corner with any confidence and it is too open plan, after the wrap around feeling you get in a Sport. The other issue, which is why I got rid of my last FF in 2005 and bought a Sport, was the height issue. Max headroom in most of Bath's car parks is 1.9 m. Even with the suspension slammed, it's to close to the lights and barriers to risk trying. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Simon as you know I have towed with 3.0 tdv6 and sdv6 and they have ample power Thumbs Up

Solo the sdv6 with 8 speed is my favourite of the 2 Bow down

On a straight road the 4.4tdv8 ffrr is the daddy though - it just doesn't like bends Embarassed Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

That's where I'm going wrong Paul, all the roads round here got corners. I know the 8 speed is the one to have, going to drive both tomorrow and decide which way to go after that. 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Yes, I do like the wrap round feel of the RRS, you just seem to be hugged in the seat.
