Lower tax bracket...

Hi guys!
Just a few quick questions and would like to pick your brains...

I am looking at a rangeroversport sport around the 2005/55 - 2006/56 plate mark and was wondering if this qualifies for the lower tax bracket...

I have seen some up for sale stating it is the lower tax bracket model but was unsure if it was to do with the plate or spec of the car.

If I was to purchase a RRS of a 2005/55 or 2006/56 plate would there be anything I should be weary of or looking out for with this model also would it put you of if the model had clocked over 100k.?

TThanks Tommo Smile

Any Sport registered before March 2006 ( BELIEVE ITS THE 31st ) falls into the lower road fund licence band. Use the search function on the top banner - type in a key word. This should give you all the info you need regarding a new purchase Thumbs Up 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

Peachy is spot on apart from the cut off is 23rd March 2006. So it is possible to get an 06 plate car on the lower bracket but there can't be many of them about. General rule of thumb is if it's an 06 onwards then it's the higher bracket.

Please don't take it personally, but even the higher tax bracket is only equivalent of four tanks of fuel so if you are on a budget, this car isn't for you Thumbs Up my road tax is £1600 for daily driver Rolling with laughter 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Hi simple1.
My budget is around 15k for a RRS and the 2005 /2006 falls into that bracket so it's a bonus!
Thanks for your concern tho Very Happy

The older these cars are, the more they take to keep them up together, tyres, servicing, replacing bits that fall off, the list goes on, so road tax is probably the least expensive annual cost, hence bringing it up. You obviously have your eyes open so good luck in finding a good car to enjoy. Thumbs Up 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Thanks for the advice simple1!
I made a post regarding some advice on what would be my best options going for a older model with less miles (2006) or going for a newer model with higher miles (over 100k).

What would your advice be?

If I go for a model with over 100k am I stuck in the same boat regarding maintenance? I have always been told to avoid a range with over 100k due to reliability reasons...

Thanks Very Happy

Like any car, buy the best you can afford. A well maintained car from a forum member has to be better than a used car lot in a back street.
At 115000 k you need belts, which should have been done at 7 years anyway, diffs become an issue as do wheel bearings, brake callipers, heater plugs, the list goes on. Having looked to find a car for myself, you can spend £11-?? With no guarantee of a good car. I expect to buy a car then spend £1000 on fixing the things others have ignored. Total minefield which is why I'm will only buy from a LR dealer.... 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀

Jesus!! Shocked
So everything on the car that could go wrong does go wrong after 100k!

I thought it would be more reliable than that for around 15k but the prices of these cars can go as high as the sky!

I love these vehicles but if it's guna cost me more than my mortgage I think I might have to think elsewhere! Sad Big Cry

Didn't mean to scare you off, just to keep your feet on the ground so that you don't end up buying a nightmare or money pit. They are great cars, just take a grown up to view so you don't get caught and now you are aware of some of the issues, you can ask if things have been done before viewing a dog!Thumbs Up 2x TDV6. Anything could go wrong at any time but as time goes on and mileage goes up things will wear out and fail. These are big and heavy cars so they will put more demands on their components. They are very complicated bits of kit too, with air suspension, computers and sensors for everything etc.

Don't forget that these cars will have cost £60k plus when new. They may now have dropped to more affordable levels but they will always have the servicing and maintenance costs of a £60k car.

If you go in with your eyes open then they are fine. You are in the right place for advice. It's better that you ask questions now rather than buying one and then finding out how much they are likely to cost.
