Whirring noise under my feet

Hi,

I was wondering if anybody has any suggestions to my problem. The car has been into the range rover dealership 6 times with the same problem, and its going back again next wednesday.

The car is a RHD RRS Supercharged 2010, and its done 35k miles.

When the car is idling at 600rpm there is a whirring noise coming from under my feet, it sounds like a strimmer. It does it with the air con switched on or off. The noise is louder outside the vehicle, and seems to be coming from behind the back of the front o/s wheel arch.

The noise dissapears if you raise the revs above 600rpm, but gradually returns when it goes back to idle.

The pitch of the noise also alters if you move the steering wheel whilst stationary.

It has had a new power steering pump, water pump and belts. But no change to the noise.

Any help would be much appreciated.

We used to get something very similar on D2's fitted with ACE the pipes run along the chassis rail under the drivers side. Used to get a high pitched whine, it was by caused the pipes resonating with the hydraulic pressure.
The sports have a more advanced system but the pipes leading to the valve block are in the same place as on the D2's.. 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

Thank you for the reply.

Is there anything you did to reduce/stop the noise as its driving me crazy. It's like having a V8 strimmer. All I can hear is the whir/vibration.

Try repositioning the pipes, make sure there not fouling anything. Get some one to flex the pipes while your in it to see if the noise changes pitch 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

You were spot on. It took them a week to realise and replicate the fault, even though I'd told them what you'd said.

Thank you.
