RRS 2.7 tdv6 oil pump rattle

Morning all ! Ever since I've owned my 07 RRS 2.7 tdv6 on start up I can hear a rattle from the oil pump whilst it gets the oil round the engine for about 3 seconds an light stays on. Now I've been told numerous times it's normal but I've just had my oil an filter changed with good quality parts an now it rattles for about 5/6 seconds an oil light stays on same time. Tbh it runs fine but it's annoying can this issue be fixed ? I'm wondering if it needs a new oil pump ??? Open to advice an thanks in advance !

Cheers for reply mate ! ive had two new EGR valves so surely it cant be them ? the tappet thought seems logical, ive been told them oil pump is low down in the engine isnt it, so the oil has to travel up to the top before it quietens down ? Is there nothing i can do to rectify it ? also how come it lasts a couple more seconds now ive changed the oil ? PS it castrol ol so no rubbish ?? Cheers again Thumbs Up

i really wouldnt worry about it mate ,every one iv owned has been exactly the same, the one i have now has just had engine rebuilt and it still does it,if it is tappet related i would think the new oil is thinner so drains out quicker Thumbs Up silverRRS 2.7 TDV6 22"WHEELS FULL COLOUR CODE,STEPS,REMAP..gone

I'd expect the correct oil and filter were fitted the garage I took it was my best friends. He has looked after my cars for years. I'm waiting for him to get home to ring me. If for any reason it's not the right oil or filter why would that cause this problem mate ? I'm sure it's 5w40 magnetec he uses ? If it is correct parts wat could be causing it ? Also would I need to recover car to him or can I drive it 3 miles ? Cheers

That is the same oil I use mate and its fine. The oil filters can be a little tricky to fit and I always use gen ones ..personally I wouldn't drive it as I have just spent nearly 3k on an engine so maybe a bit paranoid. If you want some very experienced advice try disco Mikey he has helped me a lot in the past silverRRS 2.7 TDV6 22"WHEELS FULL COLOUR CODE,STEPS,REMAP..gone

Just spoke to my mate he has used 5w30 oil with a Bosch oil filter. He told me to recover it in the morning he will get a genuine oil filter an try again. Could it be the oil pressure switch ???? It's funny how wen I was stationary the oil light came on but wen I revved it went out ????

That is usually a sign of low oil pressure obviously when you rev it the oil pressure rises hence light won't illuminate ..let's just hope its an oil filter problem..yes could poss be an oil switch silverRRS 2.7 TDV6 22"WHEELS FULL COLOUR CODE,STEPS,REMAP..gone

If it is summat to do with oil pressure and it's not the filter OR the switch wat else could it be mate ? It seems funny how this all started after an oil change ?

If everything else is ruled out you will be looking at crank/oil pump problems ..mine was crank which ended up in an engine rebuild..but as you say only since oil change surely it has to be related Thumbs Up silverRRS 2.7 TDV6 22"WHEELS FULL COLOUR CODE,STEPS,REMAP..gone

Fingers crossed ! I've just rang RAC they are sending a guy out to look at it first (protocol) if he can't fix it they will arrange for it to be recovered at a time to suit me eg in morning. Wen I was driving to my yard, it drove perfectly no knocks or bangs so I'm praying its summat small !
