Cost of charging PHEV

Just clocked up 600 miles in new PHEV. All good so far. Very responsive to down right quick off the line when compared to SDV6, and loving the smooth electric power. Daily commute is now totally electric and charging overnight hassle free. Have done 5-6 hrs on the motorway. No noticeable pick up in engine noise when cruising, but it is very slightly louder when accelerating hard...but not unpleasant. So....other than taking longer than I would like getting used to dual screen (anno domini....but really, I would prefer a few more clicky on-off buttons and dials than having to navigate through several screens to do really, simple and regular things)....I am loving it.

HOWEVER....I would really like to know what it is costing me to charge it? I know we all pay different rates for electricity, and possible the answer is staring me in the face in terms of the KWh output of the battery/electric engine.....but I cannot find a review or comment anywhere as to what a “full” charge over 7 hours at home costs me?

Can anyone help / tell me how to calculate it for myself? Am I going to have to monitor my meter one night when it isn’t charging, then when it is....and then multiply the difference in units used by my cost of electricity. Or has someone done that already?

Look forward to hearing from you....and also interested in experience of other new PHEV owners.

Interesting question...

A quick google states 13.1 kwh battery capacity...

You might be paying 15p per kwH. So 13 * 0.15p = £1.95

Hey !

Quick question - have you had the battery go flat on you yet ? Or have they ironed that problem out since the first cars came out?

Thanks!

Regarding the flat battery - all battery cars now have a reserve that they won’t discharge below, in a PHEV the software will start the petrol engine when you get to something like 5% orvless charge, in a pure EV you are stuffed if you let it get that low and will need a flatbed to get you home or a handy charging point. One great thing - the changeover from electric to petrol is imperceptible in most PHEVs and in my own car (not an RRS PHEV) I don’t even have a rev counter on the dash (it is buried in the driver info system somewhere as a graph) and know by watching the remaining distance onpetrol Range diminish or the fuel gauge go down. RRS PHEV has a rev counter which is nice but semi redundant anyway! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Andy - who do you use to buy your detailing products? Any recommendations other than Elite?

Tim - I heard some of the early cars did let the battery run down to the point where it wouldn't use EV mode anymore and only used the petrol engine. Glad they've sorted it if they have!!

It varies & depends what’s on offer at the time I need it,,mostly eBay,I just purchased a bottle of Sonax bsd form ecp on eBay for £8.09 inc del.I was going to get 5 litres of BH snow foam today from shopnshine (they have it on offer) till I went to the checkout & with the postage it worked out similar price to eBay.I suppose it’s only cheap if you spend over £50 & get free postage.

Dangermouse: not yet! I had an issue with finding a plug near enough to the car, so for the first week, barely charged it. However, probably been charged from zero to full 10 times now....and no issues.

That said.....I am interested that one place where I plug it in, it shows a full battery and 31 miles of range....the other place I plug it, while it also shows a full charge, it has only shown 21 miles of range. In both places, it has been plugged in overnight, so should be as fully charged as possible. I am thinking this might be something to do with one place having a phase 2 supply and the other a phase 3 supply. But further research / experience required to work out what is going on and whether a fault, or something to do with supply.

Tyrefitter - Thanks gonna keep my eye on EBay more, still like Elite but yeah the delivery is meh.

Even with the detailingworld discount codes to get 5/10% off with some of the retailers it is still a pricey hobby!

Salmon&permit - I heard from a friend who has the hybrid that he has inconsistencies with charging standards across London and charging stations - guess its still a new field - even Tesla can't get it right!

Wonder if JLR will create charging stations for their cars ??
