I have a very high tech DIY solution for you to consider chaps. Devised after an attempt on mine whilst in the Cambridge area for a few days.
Materials: blutack, 4 off 5 pence pieces and some tape. I prefer the metallic 'speed tape'.
The five pence is the ideal size for the screw hole. Ir covers the screw head thus preventing the screwdriver engaging. The blutack simply holds it there and the tape prevents the lot from coming lose.
I put a dab of blutack on the five pence and pushed it over the screw heads. Flushed it with more blutack and finished it with tape, mainly to conceal and prevent it coming out. It was intended as a temporary fix but I've left it in. It has shown signs of being tampered with once more.
I lied about the hi tech.

Hugh your excellent low-tech solution buried in the political correctness, off-topic, discussion. And it deserves consideration, especially as ........ Independently I came up with similar, using chromed domed nuts which tightly fit in the holes and viewed through the tailgate gap give the impression that removal will be slow to impossible, due lack of space for a socket. I'll try to post pics.

Was asked by a member to confirm size of domed nuts as 17mm - confirmed.

Here is some more info from my reply to him.

I had not checked how easy it would be to remove the domed nuts if required .... by me!! Anyway reasonably easy to fidget them out with a typical small electrical screwdriver.

Using my trusty vernier caliper
- internal diameter of holes in light unit flange = 18.4 mm
- domed nut across flats 17mm
- domed nut across points 18.45mm
So nice snug fit in hole, and as I remarked, a puzzle for a man with a socket set!! 2011 TDV6 HSE Stornoway grey, ivory trim
