United Kingdom 2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Santorini Black
Tow bar for new RRS

I am collecting in the next few days a 9 month old RRS HSE dynamic and wish to fir a tow bar. The factory fit is an electrically operated retractable costing about £950 but a retro fit is about £1900. This seems a bit steep. I see from the web site there appears to be a fixed towbar which can have the height changed and this costs a reasonable £650 as a retro-fit. Can this be fitted to my car and will it look OK. I do need to tow a horse trailer from time to time when my wife's disco is not available. Your help would be appreciated.

I have part-exchanged a 2011 RRS HSE which had a removal towbar.

Probably not much help, but I have the electronic towbar on my 14 and it really is a godsend!

I had a detachable on my 2010sport and it was great too, but sometimes messy and awkward.

Can the dealers not help you as £1900 seems extortionate as a retrofit. If they can work with you in any way I'd recommend staying OEM as a big ugly tow bar sticking out of the new sports bum isn't nice looking! MY10 HSE 3.0 TDV6 : Santorini Black : Ebony Interior w/Anigre wood : Privacy Glass (total) : Sunroof : Sidesteps : Hybrid TV : Detachable Tow Kit : Spare Wheel Cover : 22" Dished Supersports

Not RRS related but I specced the electric tow bar on my BMW and as big pimp says, it's brilliant, there when I need it and easily out of sight when I don't. Cost me around £850 I think, but I would have paid £1,500 or even more now I've seen them in action. Cool ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Thanks for the reply.

Well I have taken the plunge and bought the RRS with 16 miles from another non RR dealer on the clock but no tow bar. The dealer that I was going to get the original car that I was interested had been speaking to me over the last few days and this morning told me that the cost of the electric retro fit would be with fitting and extra cables and switches near on £2500. I said no but he then told me that the demonstrator car that I wanted would not be available until the end of next week as they had to wait for the replacement demo car due in on Friday. We agreed to speak this afternoon and he duly phoned me and told me that another salesman had sold the car. Needless to say I would not want to use them ever again. Gives care salesmen a bad name.

However I looked at a independent dealer near to where I live who had a car registered last week with 16 miles on the clock and the change over was not that different so I bought it. The original was a "dynamic" this is a simple HSE with some nice toys but it is brand new and the other was 9 months old so maybe the original sales man did me a favour. I am not in a hurry to fit a towbar but will think on it. Certainly not going to spend £2500 on a electric one.
