Caravan Side Panel Damage!

Been to check the van at storage depot has not used for a while due to RRS issues taking up my free time and found the side panel has bulged/creased near the door and window facing the sunny side Thud

Only explanation I can see is the intense heat over the last few weeks may have caused panels to expand and these areas are the weakest place to give Big Cry

Looked on caravan forum and found others with similar issue and Elddis apparently refusing to sort under warranty - mine is 3 year old next month but should have 6 years warranty on shell. If this doesn't get fixed without another Censored battle I will be packing in vanning soon too Evil or Very Mad

Give me a Censored break Banging Head Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Well had the meeting with dealer and told they will refer it to Elddis but will take weeks to get reply due to summer shut down Rolling Eyes

Dealer told me not to build my hopes up as after 2 years things like this are usually rejected - I was not happy and asked if the 6 year warranty actually means more than the paper its written on in that case. I also have to fork out £225 now for a service because if I don't my warranty will be void whatever happens even if a day late apparently Evil or Very Mad

I showed them a memo I obtained on Caravan Talk forum relating to my model year but this did not interest them Thud

Quote:
Q.12 A member has a Compass Rally caravan that is now 15 months old. It has been used 9
times. A crease and dent on the side panel has appeared, along with cracks around the
window. It is now in the workshop for repair under warranty and to have a new wall and side
support put in. Why did they not do this when the caravan was built?

A.12 Elddis are aware of this fault and changes to the design have now been made.

I despair at dealer customer service in this country Big Cry Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Well after weeks of waiting for approval of warranty claim elddis have now asked for more photos and inspection of wheels, chassis and underside Rolling Eyes

Found 8 members on caravan talk with same problem and all explorer group nobody else affected Confused

To add insult to injury the catch broke last week on pan locker and asked dealer if they could do it under warranty this week while in for £225 service - told me it was only £2 so recommended buy it and do it myself - now that's customer service - not Evil or Very Mad

3 year old, costs £25000 and offered £10k px with zero service or warranty when things go wrong Shocked Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

My thoughts exactly Ady*

£15k over three years to sit in a tin box next to lots of other tin boxes in a field somewhere in the UK? £15k to go to foreign lands and enjoy new foods, experiences, cultures? I know which one I'd pick...

The UK is, theoretically at least, a free country so I'm happy that others get to enjoy their tin boxes. Thumbs Up

Tried tin boxing, hated it.

Funny thing, flying. Lots of people seem to be scared of it. A mate of mine has to take pills to be able to fly. This limits him to short trips - if the pills wear off before he gets to the other end he apparently gets extremely agitated. Another firend, like you, gets wound up long before the flight. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I actually paid £19k after discounts but they have gone up since then Sad

We have used it approx 4-6 weeks per year and some weekends so £500-750 per week and far superior compared to the £1500 per week spent at Cotswolds Luxury self catering accommodation and average £200 B&B per night in Hotels we do but still thought it would hold better value - last Fleetwood we had cost £10k new and got £6k after 2 years Confused

Given the choice we enjoy a villa in Algarve with pool that costs us about £1000 a week off peak with car and flights then caravan in uk peak season Thumbs Up

We hate being told to get up for breakfast and having to leave room for cleaning, etc - caravan means we can get up between 9 and 10 and bbq or eat out if we don't fancy cooking. We also have a clean bed/mattress free of others bodily fluids Laughing

Towing is the only downside but once we get there we have a couple of weeks exploring the area van free Bow down

The farms we stay on have big fields and open space so not looking at other tin tents either Whistle Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

When we go on UK holidays (at least once a year, sometimes twice a year) we just rent a different historic property/cottage. That way we get a base for the week but without the towing malarky. And if the weather gets nasty we have a nice place to sit it out. I've done tin boxes in the rain. I did not find it a pleasant experience at all...everything felt damp all of the time. Yuck. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Modern caravans should not feel damp unless they have issues but most historic properties I've visited are Confused

I looked at the historic properties you mentioned RRSTDV8 and although they looked fantastic outside many were pretty basic inside and no dogs allowed Sad

Thought they were pretty pricey too - last 2 weeks we paid £60 first week and £80 second week for pitch with electric and everything else we needed was onboard with great views and tranquility. Might give your properties a go next year if we do another family holiday together though Bow down
