I just wondered if anyone else had experienced there crankshaft failing which inturn seized the engine on my RR Sport?

The RR has a full main dealer service history with 93000 miles on the clock. As I reported on this website on New Years Eve in France without notice, the RR lost all power and came to a halt within 50yds, luckily we had just come of the motorway so were able to pull over without incident.

The RR is now having a new engine fitted under warranty

I can not fault the RR warranty they were superb and today 44 days after the event I am still in a hire car paid for by Landrover. However my wife is now not prepared to use the RR incase it happens again when the children are in the car/when towing a horse trailer, consequently I have been put in a position where I am having to sell.

Staying with the brand the equivalent replacement of my current HSE is circa £70k which is way outside my budget so have opted for a Discovery, howevr I wouldnt be replacing the motor if it hadnt broken.

Do I challenge Landrover fo being forced into a situation of replacing the RR which I certainly eas not intending to do.

Advice most welcome

I do not think you would get very far challenging LR as they are fixing the car and have kept you mobile - have you considered the Disco uses the same mechanical components so what is to stop you being in the same boat in a couple of years time

I faced similar dilemma with my last low mileage immaculate RRS after dealer dropped it off a ramp 2 1/2 year old and damaged it so I sympathise - I ended up forking out a fortune to change as I was never happy with mine after the repair

So it seems the failures go on and on. I'm sure like mine, you will never be told what caused the failure. I was forced to change my car after the engine was replaced due to bad workmanship and then the dealer dragging heels and arguing over who was footing bill for further diagnosis and repairs.
LR did help in this process but I'm afraid that they are going to say 99000 miles isn't far from the limit if the guarantee plus they have kept you mobile and replaced the engine at no cost to you we can assume. Think I would be telling my mrs to wise up and think herself lucky she doesn't have to use public transport rather than forcing your hand into financial loss.

On the plus side, you could get LR to give you additional guarantee on entire vehicle rather than twelve months on the replaced bits so avoiding any further failures and being stranded.  2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!

There is no car in the world that may not breakdown at anytime. The problem is that cars have become so reliable we find it difficult to accept when they do. Back in the dark ages when I was a boy every weekend was spent trying to get through the following week without a breakdown and these are cars with about 18000 miles on the clock. Today I think the biggest problem with modern cars is the move to no spare. The grunge used to seal the tyre is fine if it is a small puncture but if it is a rip in the wall you are stuffed. Just imagine trying to get an unusual tyre size and being told 'No we cannot get it for two weeks'

I have to second what Terryrrs says above. I owned a dealership many moons ago. Originally we had close to 20 mechanics who changed clutches, gearboxes, starters, alternators, suspension regularly. Over 10 years we shrunk the workshop by over half a the vast majority of work was servicing, brakes the odd clutches etc.

Our expectations are now, not unreasonably, very high and at a time when communications are almost instant bad news travels fast. Engine failures are very rare, but we hear about them which makes it appear more frequent than in reality.

In this case it appears JLR have been reasonable; the OP needs to try and step back and be objective (which will be hard) rather than overreact and spend further cash unnecessarily.
