HELP!! Busted my PCB on the Head unit :-(

Morning All,

Well I got an extra day off yesterday because of the storms here in Oman, so I thought I'd take the opportunity to do some work on the car....

Anyway long story short, whilst dissembling the head unit I got distracted and the PCB above the 6 disc changer fell to the floor from the table... It must have hit something on the way down as on inspection I noticed one of the connectors for the flat cables was loose/ partially unattached from the PCB Evil or Very Mad .

After reassembly it was obvious that the damaged connector is for the display so now I get no information displayed on the screen, only a green illuminated screen Sad thankfully everything else works so I still have sound and radio...

So question is does anybody know where I can get a replacement from, I really don't want to buy a whole unit for just the PCB...

Thanks in advance and have a good weekend Thumbs Up

Cheers

Guy

Basically, the left hand connector in the 3rd photo is the one that is lose. I'm going to try applying some heat using a soldering iron to see if that will do the trick as I haven't got anything to loose, but, I'm guessing I'm going to need a new PCB....

Thanks for the help Peachy

Cheers

never done pcb board soldering myself, but i know its not the same as soldering a couple of wires, as you have to be very careful about heating it up too much

Might be worth looking at a few you tube videos to be sure you know what your doing

if you already do good luck, if you dont good luck too Thumbs Up

I re-soldered one of the those connections on my Sat Nav screen as that had become loose, you need a small tip, a big magnifying glass and a steady hand but it can be done, do not use to much solder, but use a good quality one.

You need to make sure that none of the tails are touching each other.

Flack Thumbs Up

Npinks, Flack,

Thanks for the tips and links Thumbs Up I gave the soldering a try and whilst there was some success in that I'm now getting black lines on the screen, I'm hesitant to try further at risk of damaging the PCB mounted to the fascia panel. Confused

Plan of action will be to try find a replacement main PCB and also locate a good mobile phone repairshop which could in theory carry out this type of work....

On a positive note the damage wasn't all in vain and it looks very much like the rearrangement of the Head Unit and Hazard Warning Buntton panel will work with some work so the ICE build will be completed and should look very good when all the parts are finished and colour coded. Very Happy

Cheers for the support and help guys Thumbs Up
