United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
Advice on Sloppy Gear Change and a Clunk Please?

The car is an 06 with 43k miles.

There is nothing to suggest the mileage isn't right going off condition and general feel. No warning lights on.

I have a couple of issues with the gearbox, but being as this is my first RRS, some of it may be just me, or normal, so better to ask I thought.

When I lift off the accelerator, and back on again (as you do in traffic for example) I occasionally feel a mild clunk as the drive catches again. Were it an old van, you might say like a prop donut or UJ worn. Pretty irritating though.......

I don't notice much difference between regular 'drive' and the left shift into 'sport'. If any. Should the difference be noticeable?

In the morning, when cold, when I go to pull away, I have to bury my foot into the carpet to get it to move away at a decent lick. Only when its cold though, not an issue when its warm. However, that said, when I want to nip on a roundabout quickly for example, there is only what I can describe as turbo lag. Just a moment of nothing between plonking your right foot down and movement.

The gear change to me feels a bit sloppy; or badly timed might be a better description. While the kick down works OK, it doesn't feel as responsive as I think it should.

I was reading here tonight that there are some software updates that would have been done if it was serviced at the dealer. It had I think a 6k service at the dealer, and after that it was done at a local garage somewhere in the sticks.

Would software updates sharpen the gear change?

Any thoughts on the transmission clunk?

How does that differ having it changed the conventional way?

The Megaflush changes around 98% of the oil in the gearbox, as it uses the gearbox oil pump to flush it all out., changing the oil in the torque convertor too.

A conventional drain and refill only does 40-50% of the old oil

You should definitely notice the response and higher revving between gear changes using sport mode. I would do 2 things, change the tranny oil as suggested then go to an LR dealer and get the latest software upgrades. The clunk you experience is not unusual but should not be too pronounced. Gone - 2008 Stornoway Grey RRS 2.7 TDV6

Not sure where I read it, Could have been on here, the Disco 3/4 forum, or possibly one of the BMW forums, however I am sure I read that there is "anti thump / anti clonk" software fix the ZF box. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

Is it wise to change the oil without changing the filter?

It likely doesn't need a change because of miles, but it is seven years old?

He mentioned V8's, this is a diesel HSE and not a V8.

However, the problem described is exactly as that chap said, I also felt like it is pulling away in second. Is that normal?
