I suspect the police officer was assisting you with your statement rather than knowing what the thief may have been capable of. By making claims in your statement that you were scared of being injured, it will appear to the CPS and should the case proceed, a magistrate, that you were acting in self defence. In essence, the police officer was being sympathetic without being unlawful, with the guidance he was giving. Dropping you a great big hint Wink
Should you be charged and the case go to court then take the advice and plea that you were fearful of being seriously injured. Whatever you do, don't admit to giving the scrote a good hiding because you wanted to teach him a lesson for attempting to steal or damage your property. As has been said above, I wouldn't be happy accepting a caution, I would opt to go to court rather than admit to any guilt. The chances are the scrote has previous or could be linked to other cases of unsolved theft or possibly even an incident of assault. This would jeapordise his position and he would likely be advised to drop any case against you.

Best of luck, hopefully the case will be made to go away but NOT at any cost to you.

To everybody who has posted .

I thank you all for your support and advice . Having never previously been arrested, it was all a little daunting, but I now realize the police officer was guiding me with my statement !!! I never mentioned any martial art, and at no point was I fearful or scared , but taking the "Hint" my statement reads as if I was S#itting myself Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter
I am counting the hours till Tuesday, and will post the outcome.
Thank you all again

UPDATE !!!!!
After a very stressful week , I am pleased to announce I'm a free man Smile

The guy I caught has decided not to make a complaint against me .

The arresting officer gave me a stern word in the ear regarding catching strote's on my property , but is happy that ,that is the end of the matter.
To say I'm relieved is an understatement , and to celebrate I've decided to buy the LED lights .

On the downside, my wife is eyeing up a new handbag and matching purse with the money I've saved from a fine Crying or Very sad
And I'm afraid that's a fight I'm not going to win !!!!

Thank you all for your advice and support
Devon.

Great news, there's a high probability that if the scrote had pursued charges against you, he would likely have uncovered more to incriminate himself.

Plus I suspect the police leaned on him to back down, especially if he is known to them.

No doubt a huge relief for you, remember to compliment the new handbag (regardless of what you really think about it) Very Happy Laughing Very Happy

If we all point our RR's in the same direction and accelerate at the same time can we turn back time?

Laughing You were robbed either way you look at it! The handbag is a small price to pay for freedom though!
Thanks for the tip about the security screws, where did you get them and are they specific for RRS or just standard security screws that you used? If they are standard you wouldn't be able to post the specs of them would you please? Cheers 2016 RRS SVR Estoril Blue
