3.5 tonnes. The maximum nose weight is 150kg I think.

The "85% rule" is a Caravan Club recommendation for single axle caravans rather than twin axle utility trailers isn't it? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

For occasional towing, the QR one will be fine.

Not surprised D_M, the QR ball does have a tiny bit of play so I could see that continued movement in use would be quite damaging. If and when SWMBO gets her horse to the stage where we're taking it out on a regular basis in the trailer, I shall be having the multi height bar fitted. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

The 85% guide is a safety recommendation and if you are a novice worth considering for any trailer |

Muddy, I'm not knocking your post or disagreeing with your basic position. |

In Aust our RRS are rated to tow 3500kg with a max tow ball weight of 350kg. Our cars don't have any problem towing at these weights for extended periods but as the UK tow bar is considered inadequate for our needs LR Aust provides a different two part bar that is fitted into the standard fitting in the rear cross member.

If only the Mitch Hitch was allowed in the UK....we have some here in the UAE....best for towing, recovery points etc.....but the UK is wuss on such things. Ra-Ro Sport Super Dooper Charged.
