England 2006 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Santorini Black
Another NEWBIE

Well RRS fans here's my first post. On Saturday I took ownership for the wife of a 2006 RRS TDV6 HSE Black with biscuit interior. Only 70K on the clock and lots of history secon owner etc etc.
So still early days but enjoying it all the same. So now the questions begin

SatNav - It doesnt offer me the option to put in a destination although the box is there its grey'ed out.

Build sheet - is there an easy way to get a copy for my records that is.

Bonnet open - have opened the bonnet a few time but now the catch is sticking on the drivers side and the result I get a bonnet open warning. I will spray some WD40 later as there's lots of dirty grease around the catches.

I am sure I will come back with more questions and some photos!

Lloyd

Welcome to the madhouse Thumbs Up You need to be parked to use the Sat nav input screen. Build sheet - not something I`ve ever looked for - try the search function on the top banner this may throw up some results. Bonnet catch - had the same issue used a very small amount of releasing / lubricating agent - Ok ever since.
Looking forward to the pics. Very Happy 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............

Welcome along. "for the wife " Rolling with laughter

If you get in touch with your nearest site sponsor service provider they can visit you and update the software on your car to enable sat nav on the move plus a few other things.

Register with Topix to see some details of your car when new but it is only very limited info (no use at all really) on older vehicles such as ours. Only the later models seem to have anything interesting.

As for the bonnet catch it may be just a case of pressing down on both corners quite hard as you shut the bonnet. Please don't just let it drop the last 18 inches as a dopey salesman once did when showing me 'how to close the bonnet'
(tw Censored t!).

Some owners have had success with just reaching under the catch and resetting the microswitch.

The microswitch in the bonnet catch failing is another cause of an erroneous 'bonnet open' message and apparently this is usually caused by enthusiastically greasing the catch which is not part of the approved servicing procedure. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

I will have a look at the catch tonight. On another note when I hit the lock button it sounds the horn, is that normal can I stop/change this?
As for software updates yes please!

Normally happens if something isn't closed properly - bonnet perchance? Either of the boots?

Yes if something is open - in this case your bonnet thinks it is open (Hood ajar switch). But it isn't the horn it's the "battery backed -up sounder". It's a Land Rover Laughing 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Lloyd,
Just noticed you are in Hampshire. You should get in touch with site sponsor Advanced Motor Factors based in Southampton (ask for Steve a.k.a BoringOldGit) as he organises Saturday Morning get-togethers when forum members can have their software updates done and even gearbox flushes last time! 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Thanks Paddi I will have a look for him.

Just sorted the bonnet with a little WD40 and an airline powered cleaner. Both catches are lovely and clean and lightly greased.
This has in turn as advised sorted the horn sound on locking Embarassed

FIRST TIMER

Hi Looking to take the plunge and buy my first rrs, have seen a sweet 2006 black HSE colour coded and fully loaded 2.7tdv6. Have heard loads about the unreliability but the cars look the business so going to go from my V8 Audi S4 to a range, any advice would be much appreciated, what should I watch out for? The one I'm going to see has had 4 previous owners, full service history mostly main dealer then 2 at local specialist BUT the current owner did day it has had a new engine supplied and fitted by land rover at 50k. This was due to injector failure and payed for by the insurance company, it's done 88,000 but the engine has done less as its new. Should I be worried and should I avoid. Current owner has had the car for his wife for 3 years and seams to be a middle class working professional, but I'm always weary buying private.

YOUR THOUGHTS PLEASE

THANKS Very Happy

If it's had the engine replaced, then I'd be smiling. As long as everything works a s it should, then no reason to worry I would say. Thumbs Up Bodsys Brake Bible

Cheers, I was hoping for better fuel economy than my s4 but, I think it will be worth taking the plunge. Anything else I should look out for? Read so man reviews and its slightly confusing, is it worth getting a warranty? Are these available from main deler on older cars?
