arc oil

hi chaps

I understand the power steering fluid and ARC oil is one and the same

if I need to top up the ARC with 3 bottles
but also wish to carry out that TSB for squeeky steering wheel (LTB00072)
how many bottles should I need?

what im trying to get at is, i have a two birds one stone scenario i believe.

the TSB requires a flush and refill. that should take care of the ARC top up too right? so 5 bottles? 07 TDV8 + BAS map

Jack,

The way you phrased your questions it could be inferred you think the Dynamic Response System and Power steering system are connected together.

Yes - they both use the same specification fluid (LR cold climate PAS) but No - they aren't connected on the same hydraulic circuits. They are separate systems.

You need 4 litres of PAS for the power steering flush::

"Continue to flush the power steering system until 4 litres of
power steering fluid has been added to the power steering
reservoir. This should take approximately 30 seconds."

The capacity of the Dynamic Response System is 2.4 litres:

"General Specifications
Item Specification
Dynamic Response fluid Texaco Cold Climate Fluid 33270
Capacity 2.4 Liters (4.2 pints) (2.5 US quarts)
System pressure Variable between 3-165 bar dependant on lateral acceleration"

I was just checking this again today and noticed I never came back to you! Yes you've answered my question, I did think they may be connected somehow! So how do these two distinct systems use the same spec fluid anyway? Just curious 07 TDV8 + BAS map

Well they are both hydraulic systems. Choice of fluid is made by the manufacturers presumably based on lubricicity and viscosity and compatibility with the components of the system. Not all fluids are compatible so it is important to top up with the same stuff. My guess is that Land Rover chose to use a common fluid in the interests of simplicity and economy of scale. How's that? 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Halfords best avoided for this kind of thing. I don't have any faith in their advice and the prices are way too high.

Faced with the same dilemma but just for topping up I sourced the fluid from Duckworths (LSTC50519 at about £20 per litre) Big Cry

A good motor factor is always better than Halfords in terms of advice and price.

You could try asking Steve a.k.a BoringOldGit at Advanced Motor Factors if he can recommends a less expensive equivalent? 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE
