Oz Sport Spotted?

Hey Oz,

Where you heading south on the Kwinanna on Friday, saw a white RRS that looked very much like yours.

LOL...def wasn't you Lew... Think it was Oz Sport ... White with nice set of Black Rims and serious looking tyres...

Yours look nice though you should bring it for a drive over this way...lol... have a set of 20" rims coming this week, decided to go 20s with 274/45/20 Cooper LTZs on instead of the 19"s

I was very close to purchasing the Coopers but the size available may have led to warranty problems, hence the grabber AT's.. So far I am quite happy with them, but off road use has been limited to the odd dirt road.

I'd be very interested to hear your thoughts on the Coopers

didn't you go the 275/45 in the grabbers?
will let you know how they go when they get here Smile already done one of the tyres on the 22"s so can't wait... $350 for some very light off roading wasn't fun, nothing like doing a sidewall on a brand new tyre... didn't help the dealer hadn't put wheel nuts in for the spare when they changed to the 22"s... 300km round trip in my mates ute just to be able to change a tyre...grrr...

Ouch....that would've hurt.
I went the 275/40/20 as against the 275/45/20 because the vehicle is still under warranty and the dealer's made it quite clear any change from factory fitted size would cause some issues if any problems arose. The other reason is, as my vehicle came with the steel rimmed spare, if I get a puncture I can still use that rim / tyre configuration to get out of trouble. I also purchased another rim to match those already on the car thus I now have two spares (or 1 1/2 as the steel spare is only a get out of jail card at best) but more importantly I can do a 5 way rotation of the wheels which I intend doing at 5,000km intervals.
Not sure what size spare you have, but I would advise you match it to the Cooper's as I have heard horror stories when running diffent spec tyres opposing each other.
The other qustion I still have is that I am not 100% sure you can get a 275/45/20 set up to fit in the spare wheel bay. I've done measurements which suggest you cannot, but other members on this forum reckon you can so until I see one in there I remain sceptical. The 275/40/20's just scrape in. I'd be very interested in your feedback on that.
Cheers,
Lew.

I'm going to go with a 20" and cooper for the spare (when I can find a single 20", they are hard to find), it is tight under the rear but the difference is only 18mm so would think the guys who have them on would be right.

I actually made a dowel 9mm in diameter and tried to run it around the spare to see if it would clear the entire wheel. It fouled up in one spot which may mean you could get a 45 profile tyre in albeit slightly off centre. I hope you are right and it does fit as that will change my thinking next time I purchase tyres.

As for purchasing a new rim, I bought a new one as getting a second hand one was nigh on impossible

I have (right now) a 285/60R18 in the spare wheel well. It fits (albeit tightly and only when deflated). I previously had a 265/60R18 in there, which fitted without any issues (fully inflated), so please explain how a 275/45R20 won't fit?

Your casting doubt where it's not warranted.

Cheers Gordon,

Even if I have to deflate it I think I would prefer the same size... the flat I had the other day was inland from Guilderton and the though of limping home from there was bad enough, couldn't really see enjoying getting to somewhere (at 80k/hr) that could replace one of these tyres if I was up at shark bay or Exmouth.

I certainly did not wish to cast doubt at all. The radial difference between a 40 and 45 profile is 9mm and I tried to get a dowel of that diameter to freely fit in the gap between the spare and the wheel well. It fouled at one particular point which is what made me think I could not get that larger tyre in there.

However, given that you've fitted a fully inflated 265 /60/18 then my expirement was a complete failure. I may re-visit to see where I went wrong.

Next tiime round I shall consider the 45 profile unless the 40's prove adequate, for which the jury is still out!

Thanks for the definitive resolution to my dilema.

Cheers,
Lew.

Hi, is that pic taking north of Wiluna by any chance. Once worked in Perth and had a 2 week job with RFDS in Meeka, looks like somewhere we stopped to see rock art.
