Zambian Buyer For My RRS...

So, the Sport is on Autotrader and I have just had the usual call from Africa...
Zambia to be exact. A well spoken gent, promising cleared funds in my account prior to the shipping agent collecting it...
So, my question is, has anybody actually had a successful sale such as this or know of anybody that has??! Rolling with laughter (Don't worry, I did put the phone down on him!)

Forget not sure, absolutely not, ever!

This is the classic start to the con.

Then you will get a confirmation that funds are being held for you and you can release the goods to the "shipping agent"

Have a mate who works in the vehicle squad of the local boys in blue, you would be amazed at how many fall for this.

Just be sure to provide him with your mothers maiden name, national insurance number, full bank details and your date and place of birth. I'm sure that everything will be fine......................

I'm a member on a few other car forums, and you really wouldn't believe how many people do fall for it! There have been a few posts recently 'my mate sold his car to someone... '. Don't know how people can be that silly! I'm sure most of the time the money gets recovered anyway, can't be a great business for the scammers

I do a LOT of business in Africa and have travelled on business often to sub saharan african countries especially Nigeria over the last 6 years or so. There are a lot of wealthy people who buy these cars as a status symbol and you should not be worried provided you are very careful with what information you give. You have to bear in mind that whether it's Africa or Asia or the US or Essex, you should not divulge any more information than you need to.

You CAN accept international payment via your bank - call them and ask for the necessary information if the buyer is serious. Your bank will give you secure details in order to receive payment.

FYI we are a technology company and we receive hundreds of thousands and sometimes millions of pounds from African clients usually by LC or direct bank transfer BEFORE we ship ANY goods!!

Not sure if I helped but do your research and you'll be fine.

Forgot to add - put the risk on him.

If he runs off with your money - you are screwed

If you run off with his money, he only needs to call the police with proof of payment and you will be nicked!

I'm sure there are lots of legitimate buyers, but the scams are ridiculous, and often involve off-shore oil rigs and Paypal transfers, or western union. They seem to make it really obvious so that only silly people fall for it!

Well in this case, as usual, I've no doubt is a scam and a waste of my time. They're almost as bad as Webuyanycar and their continuous offers of 'the asking price'... Rolling with laughter

There's a guy on here who is trying to buy my winter tyres & stormers but he is in Bulgaria and is offering to do a paypal
transfer and organise the shipping. I feel really bad at not accepting as he may well be a completely decent honest guy Confused
BUT, there are just too many cons around this kind of thing and I will not take the risk. Such a shame that we have to be sooo suspiscious these days but, you've go to look after number one! 2013 Discovery HSE Luxury - 3.0 SDV6 - Santorini Black

I wouldn't accept Paypal, but just ask him for a bank transfer?
