Will be doing mine soon and have a question: did you clear lacquer over the Brembo stickers? I'd like to lacquer over but am a bit worried they might shrivel up, which would be a real 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE |

Hi Paddi, No i did not Lacquer mine .And they are fine after one year. And i have power washed my wheels regular. But if yu feel you want to Lacquer yours. Why not stick a sticker on a painted piece of metal and try the lacquer on it? The stickers i bought were from Ebay and there were 6 in the pack. Cant remember who from. Hope this helps itisme |

I have used Hammerite on all the calipers I have painted in the past. Never had an issue yet with finish, discolouring or paint peeling, and will continue to use Hammerite |

Hi Mikey, Hadn't thought of Hammerite, although i used it on the centre of my discs, where they had gone rusty. They still look good. And the discs probably get as hot as the calipers itisme |

Good idea. I've only got two decals but they are cheap enough so will buy some spares and experiment with lacquer first. Update Just had a look at the website http://www.brake-caliper-painting.com/index.html#.UfY7GtJqWRU I bought my paint from and they have advice on lacquering decals: "Should you lacquer over your brake caliper decals? You probably want to do everything you can to ensure the nice looking caliper decals you have bought are there to stay and not about to fall of when at speed or fly off when your jet washing your brakes. But try to resist the temptation of lacquering over your decals. Whether you use our decals or you buy elsewhere, you really should not do this. If you did and you managed to avoid having the strong solvent content in the lacquer react with the vinyl causing it to ripple or melt, you still can not absolutely guarantee that you have no air at all whatsoever trapped underneath the vinyl, when the calipers get hot, the air will expand and you'll crack the lacquer on your calipers. The last thing you want is to be having to have your calipers painted again after you got them just how you want them." Guess not then 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE Last edited by Paddi on Mon Jul 29 2013 9:53am. Edited 1 time in total |
