Scotland 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Stornoway Grey
Reliability question

I know this subject has been talked about a lot but.....

I have a FFRR v8 Vogue but want a RRS. Budget of £20k and am looking at 2.7TD6. 3.6TDV8 or just go for a Supercharged.
For me Fuel consumption isn't an issue as I don't do a lot of miles but I do want some reliability. I am aware I'm buying a Range Rover so expect some problems but my question is, out of the 3 vehicles which one should prove to be more reliable?

Hi and welcome to the site Thumbs Up
A lot depends on how its been treat from new, ie not been thrashed from cold allowed to cool down after a long motoway run before switching the engine off, if its been serviced according to L/R's recommendations. All these factors will help with the reliabilty if they have been put into practice throughout its life, better if its a one owner vehicle. It really is a lottery out there with anything secondhand. Having said that just read Simples Topic about Not so bullet proof TDV8 http://www.rrsport.co.uk/forum/topic29765.html and that will put you off any RRS. Big Cry Good luck with your search which ever model you buy.

Simples in depth problems has put me kind of off the TDV8 but not fully yet, this seems to be quite a reliable engine in the FullFats strangely enough. My 4.4V8 I would have thought would have been reliable but the BMW engine is far from it but I believe the 4.2 Supercharged is good.

You could be right, ive only ever had the 2.7 TDV6 and now the SDV6, both reliable whilst in my ownership.

The V8 is a great engine, but it only has problems in the Sport for some reason, it is 99% reliable in the Fullfat for some reason. The V6 has its known issues with heater plugs, oil and tensioner issues but generally reliable. There are plenty of V8 Sports that go on and on without issue. Mine has been carefully looked after but as it sits for long periods of time unused, am sure this has contributed to six turbo failures and the demise of the engine. If you buy, chose a good dealer, as any problems you may have you will be relying on them to fix. If its a crap dealer it makes the problem 80 times worse Thumbs Up 2x TDV6. SE and HSE. Both returned to sender with issues👀
TDV8 Sport HSE...... Gone. Loved it but it didn't love me!!
Now rolling in MY10 Fullfat TDV8 Vogue. Slammed it to go round corners🙈
Cruising daily #56 mph in a Volvo V8. 😱
Lots of other toys in the cupboard...😜

Cheers Simple1. I've read your posts and that is probably forefront in my mind. There was talk on the FFRR forum about the TDV8 affected by heat due to the lump being squeezed into the RRS compared to the FFRR but I don't know.

Maybe the 4.2 Supercharged is the way forward solely for reliability?

As stated here and on Fullfat, I had a V8 Vogue petrol for three years, never had one issue and did 63000 hard miles. The car I am looking at to replace Sport is a TDV8 Fullfat that has had one £14.50 seal relplaced as its warrantee history so proves a point, LR have triped up somewhere with Sport design Thumbs Up 2x TDV6. Had the 4.2 V8 petrol for 3 years now - apart from servicing only spent £15 on a temp sensor. Either I have been lucky or there`s a point to prove. My mileage averages 12.9 mpg but who cares Whistle Thumbs Up 16MY Estoril Blue SVR.............
